Fradon Cognac

Fradon Cognac

The heir of a family of winegrowers for several generations, the Domaine Fradon house is a historic family affair. In 1930, Henri Chainier was behind the bottled marketing of Pineau des Charentes, a now well-known local aperitif. Back then, the family bore the name Chainier and it was in the fifties that marriage changed the house name to Fradon. In 1989, Michael Fradon took over the management of the estate, until his inherited expertise was later passed down to his son Damien Fradon, who now manages the operation.

Located in Charente-Maritime, in the heart of the Cognac vineyards, the Domaine Fradon estate is idyllic both in appearance and in quality of eaux-de-vie. With a vineyard that stretches over 40 hectares, classified as Petite Champagne (2nd Cru Classe of Cognac) it is situated in a highly sought after region renowned for producing top-quality Cognacs.

Seeing bright sunshine and moderate temperatures, its vines sit in ideal conditions to hold the freshness and acidity necessary to produce the finest white grape varieties. Situated on clay-limestone Cretaceous soils, production is divided into three appellations:

- AOC Cognac Petite Champagne
- AOC Pineau des Charentes
- IGP Vin de Pays Charentais

With Ugni Blanc grape representing the largest proportion of vines with white grape varieties, it is a house that comprises impressive finely to its flavour.

From 2008, the surface area of the estate has increased from 13 to the 40 hectares that are proudly presented today. It is this upscale of production that has enabled the creation of new products, including the popular range of Vins de Pays Charentais.
