Domaine Fradon produces several notable Cognacs, including the Cognac Vieille Réserve and Cognac XO. The Vieille Réserve, aged for 25 years, offers a deep gold color with flavors of honey, leather, and musk, culminating in a soft, lingering finish. The XO, aged for 45 years, features an amber color and a rich blend of fruit, floral, and spice notes, underscored by a strong, lingering aftertaste of liquorice. Both exemplify the quality of Domaine Fradon. Which brings us to their Brut de Fut.
The Domaine Fradon Brut de Fût is exactly that: a cask strength single cask Cognac coming from Cask N°47, bottled at 51.9% alcohol in August of 2023. As it is a cask strength Cognac, not a single drop of water was added to it, nor any other additives for that matter. Also, it carries on the label Lot 1976, which gives an indication of when this stunning eau-de-vie was distilled, and therefore its age - making it just shy of a 50 year old Cognac. Moreover, the label is 100% handwritten, with 480 written labels created in total. The Cognac showcases the know-how and quality of Domaine Fradon, but it also showcases why the Petite Champagne is so sought after. At this advanced age, the eaux-de-vie take on a profile that removes it from the ordinary.
We really could not ask for anything more. The Cognac range is small, but complete, and easy to come to grips with. There is a Cognac at a variety of interesting ages that show off the inherent quality of the spirit but also the aromatic and flavor development of Cognac aging in barrel. And they represent great value for such old Petite Champagne Cognac.
