What is the most expensive Hennessy?+
Richard Hennessy is the apex of the standard range, presented in a Baccarat crystal decanter and blended from eaux-de-vie aged 40 to 200 years. Beyond the standard range, ultra-rare bottlings (such as the Hennessy 250 Collector Blend) can reach significantly higher prices.
Is Hennessy a cognac or a brandy?+
Hennessy is a cognac. All cognac is brandy, but only brandy produced in the Cognac region of France (Charente and Charente-Maritime) under strict AOC rules can be called cognac. Hennessy distills, ages and bottles entirely within this region.
What is Hennessy Pure White?+
Pure White is a lighter, floral expression of Hennessy, originally created for the Caribbean market. It uses younger eaux-de-vie and lighter oak influence, giving a pale gold colour and tropical fruit notes. It is increasingly sought worldwide and ships from our cellar to most countries we deliver to.
How long is Hennessy XO aged?+
Hennessy XO is blended from over 100 eaux-de-vie aged 10 to 30 years. Hennessy XO was the original XO category, created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870 for his closest friends, and the BNIC (the cognac industry regulator) used Hennessy's house age standards when later codifying the minimum legal age for the XO designation.
Is Hennessy a good cognac?+
Hennessy is widely regarded as one of the benchmark cognac houses. It accounts for roughly 40 percent of global cognac production, has been refined over eight family generations, and has had only seven Master Blenders in 260 years (the Fillioux family). Whether a particular Hennessy is the right cognac for you depends on profile preference and budget.
What is the difference between Hennessy VS and VSOP?+
VS (Very Special) is aged a minimum of 2 years and is built for liveliness, fruit and cocktail-friendly versatility. VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) is aged a minimum of 4 years and reaches into much older eaux-de-vie, with greater balance, oak integration and depth. VSOP is the original Hennessy created in 1817 at the request of the future King George IV of England.
How should I drink Hennessy?+
VS works beautifully in cocktails and over ice. VSOP is excellent neat or in a sophisticated cocktail. XO and above are traditionally enjoyed neat in a tulip glass at room temperature, with the bottle opened 15 minutes before serving to let the aromas develop.
Is Hennessy a whisky?+
No. Hennessy is a cognac, a brandy distilled from white wine grapes grown in the Cognac region of France and aged in French oak. Whisky is distilled from grain, so although both are aged brown spirits, Hennessy is a grape spirit rather than a grain spirit.
What proof (ABV) is Hennessy?+
Almost every Hennessy expression, from VS and VSOP through to XO, XXO and Paradis, is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof). A handful of limited and travel-retail editions vary slightly, but 40% ABV is the Hennessy standard.
What sizes does Hennessy come in?+
The most common formats are the 70cl (700ml) standard bottle and the 5cl (50ml) miniature. Depending on the expression and market you may also find 35cl, 1L and 1.5L magnum formats and larger, while prestige cuvees such as Paradis and Richard Hennessy come in their own decanters.
