Eye: Deep shiny amber, so typical of a well-aged Cognac.

Nose: Smooth and powerful at the same time. Dry fruits, nuts, spices, pepper and chocolate. Be patient as the nose evolves after 10 minutes.

Palate: Velvety, smooth and slow, developing the same spicy aromas as the nose. Cacao and floral notes appear after a while, followed by a distinct flavor of grilled almonds.

Painturaud Frères Hors d'Age Grande Champagne Cognac

This terroir-driven Cognac has been produced with 100% Ugni Blanc grapes sourced from the Painturaud estate. Matured in their cellars for an average of 30 years, this is a subtle and elegant expression, laced with secondary characteristics that present themselves piece by piece like a treasure hunt. The Painturaud Frères Hors d'Age Grande Champagne Cognac is the epitome of why anyone and everyone should introduce themselves to Cognacs from smaller, artisan houses.

Maison Paintraud Frères really came to life in 1934, following the great phylloxera crisis, when Guy Painuraud began marketing his own Cognacs and Pineaux des Charentes under the family name. Since 2010, the son of Guy Painturaud (Jaques) has passed the baton on to his own sons. Today, the quartet Jean-Phillipe, Vincent, Matthieu and Emmanuel represent the 4th generation of family tradition and Cognac expertise. The brand embodies everything that is great about the prestigious Grande Champagne terroir, and you can expect nothing less than a careful curation of top-of-the-range, quality Cognac products.

With knowledge, experience, and passion, this is a Cognac house that makes products offering outstanding value for money. This Hors d'Age delight astounds with its complex aromas, ever-evolving palate, and lengthy finish; for anyone who appreciates fine spirits, this is certainly one to try.

Presentation of the Bottle

While the liquid within is of a grand old age, the bottle in which it's presented is definitely 21st century. With its simplistic, clean lines and black label decorated in gold, you certainly won't want it hidden away in a cabinet – it looks far too beautiful out on display.

How to Enjoy Painturaud Frères Hors d'Age Grande Champagne Cognac

This rare vintage is best enjoyed neat at room temperature. Pour into a tulip glass and allow the Cognac to rest for a moment before taking a sip; this will allow the most complex aromas to develop for a fuller tasting experience. For an added element of luxury, enjoy it alongside a hot espresso or a cigar after dinner.

Wonderful Hors d'Age.

This Hors d'Age starts off by greeting your eyes with a truly beautiful, very deep dark color, and greeting your nose with a wonderful fragrance. It has a very pleasant taste and medium-to-long finish. It can fairly have a strong standing among the other best cognacs in this Hors d'Age category. A wonderful cognac overall, and an excellent value for the money. It is unfortunate that this Hors d'Age is not bottled at cask strength - that would make it a true "five-out-of-five" in all aspects. Respectfully submitted.

Über Painturaud Freres

Located near Segonzac, in the very heart of Premier Cru Grande Champagne country, Painturaud Frères Cognac has a history that can be traced back to the end of the 1800s. With 40 hectares of vines planted over rolling hillsides, the main crop is composed of the Ugni Blanc grape, with a smattering of Colombard and Montils. They also grow a small amount of red grapes – Merlot and Cabernet Franc – for production of red Pineaux des Charentes.
