Description
A Special Petite Champagne Blend: Château Montifaud L20 Cognac
Presented in a delightful bubble decanter, the Chateau de Montifaud Cognac L20 is a truly multifaceted blend. The Cognac comprises more than 10 eaux-de-vie, expertly assembled and all aged far longer than the required amount of time.
The selection of Cognacs are well over two decades in age, and are made solely with grapes grown in the exclusive Petite Champagne growth area. This terroir is renowned for its chalky soil that drains easily, optimum maritime climate and unique geology that makes for incredibly refined eaux-de-vie. In fact, the Vallet family’s hectares of vineyard contain a large amount of active limestone.
Cognacs from this part of their estate tend to age incredibly well, and produce beauties such as the L20 Cognac.
The beauty of Chateau de Montifaud is their ability to draw upon familial and artisanal techniques. They only create small batches with lots of lees, and age their Cognac in newer “red” oak barrels, and then older barrels.
Presentation of the bottle
The 70cl bubble bottle has an artisanal, vintage look about it. It includes a metal cork and stopper for resealing. The label is bespoke, handwritten with information about the Cognac.
It also arrives in its very own cardboard presentation sleeve, and is bottled at 40% ABV.

wonderful
This cognac is lovely. Nose is fresh and intense with apple and plum notes. Palate is sweet, smooth, with caramel and just a bit of earth. Aftertaste lingers pleasantly and does not overwhelm. Though not very important, the bottle and label are friendly and understated. Good value for sure.
À propos de Château de Montifaud
Owned by the family Vallet for six generations, Chateau de Montifaud Cognac boasts 125 hectares of vineyards that are located in both the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne growing regions. The house produces a large, high quality range of cognacs – including various vintages from years that have had an exceptional harvest. One family tradition that Cognac Chateau Montifaud is proud to follow, is that of when a new baby boy is born to the head of the cognac house, that part of the cognac created from that year’s harvest is set to one side. This is kept for a varying number of years, but may only be sold by future generations.
