Bio:
French wine, and the concept of terroir, captured my interest early on. Naturally, curiosity took me to spirits, in particular Cognac. Today I'm proud to be a member of the Cognac Expert team managing B2B projects, working on Cognac Expert Originals, and writing bottle reviews for the English Blog. I love to taste anything and everything - rum/rhum, whisky(ey), Armagnac, etc. - but no other spirit grabs my attention quite like Cognac, and all of its subtleties and nuance. Santé !

Understandably, older mature cognacs tend to get the attention of cognac lovers and lovers of spirits in general. There is no denying that eau de vie and years and years spent in quality French oak barrels, under the watchful eye of cellar master, can produce complex, balanced, and intriguing cognacs. But age is not everything. And this Cognac Vaudon Fine Rare showcases what youthful close-to-the-still Fins Bois cognac is capable of.
It's six years old, uncolored and unfiltered - from my understanding. To be sure, it does not have the complexity of a more mature cognac, but what it lacks in complexity it makes up for with honest, pure, dense white fruits: white grapes, yellow apples, and pears. I also get notes of ginger and anise on the finish. It's fresh and youthful but very pleasant in the mouth. The anise finish adds a cooling fresh note.
Needless to say, I'm really enjoying tasting through this bottle. A smart and interesting bottling that doesn't seem to get much attention - presumably since most are chasing the mature stuff. Tasty.
