Jacques Denis Extra Cognac
Anbaugebiet (Cru) & Boden: Grande Champagne
The Jacques Denis Extra Cognac is a delight... It first excites the eye with it's wonderful mahogany color, one that's only achieved by a long aging process. And with this cognac you'll be enjoying a Grande Champagne blend with an average age of 30 years.
This is certainly not a cognac to sip if you don't have the time to appreciate it... As one would expect from such a quality, this is one to savor as the different aromas and tastes literally play with your senses. The house of Jacques Denis has passed down the cognac making knowledge (from the vine to the bottle) over many, many decades. Today the house continues to create great quality cognacs (at exceptionally good value for money) that delight those who are priviliged enough to stumble across them.
Definitely one for the connoisseur.
I have purchased the Jacques Denis Extra on four different occasions for a total of 10 bottles.
I consider this a former great cognac, currently a good cognac. I feel quality has slipped since the decal change on the cap cover.
Older bottles have an ornate circular design on the foil covering the bottle cap, they were amazing: satisfying viscosity, pleasant sweetness, memorable finish.
Current bottlings have a shield design on the cap, these bottles have the same flavors but they are tainted with an unwanted alcohol presence on the palate: they're thinner, don't have the richness, finish is short.
The nose is a sweet musk that I would describe as concentrated flowers and honey.
It's still good enough I would recommend it over ABK6 Reserve but at the price point Paul Beau Hors D'Age and Ragnaud Soubrin #20 would be my choice.
