Nestled in Saint-Sulpice de Cognac is the exquisite estate "Chez Gauthier" belonging to Jean-Jacques Vidal. Sourced from the Borderies, the tiniest among the 6 crus, this Cognac is made entirely of the Folle Blanche grape—a variety that faced great adversity during the 1875 phylloxera crisis. Thanks to the resilient vineyards of the Rivière family, this specific distillation took place in 1925. The original creator of these Cognacs passed away several decades ago, but his legacy remains in the dame jeannes, meticulously maintained by his successor, Jean-Jacques Vidal. Known affectionately as JJ, the now-retired professor exudes the charm that encapsulates the heart of the Cognac region. A visit to JJ's is reminiscent of a stroll through a museum, where one soaks in history and culture.
