Appellation (Cru) & sol: Grande Champagne
Jacques Denis Extra Cognac
The Jacques Denis Extra Cognac is a delight that excites from first glance, through to its lingering finish. A beautiful blend from the premiere region of the Cognac - Grande Champagne - it's been aged for an average of 30 years. Its long aging deserves a lengthy savoring with slow, considerate sips. With harmonious aromas and a palate that plays with your senses, the Extra is one for connoisseurs to take their time appreciating.
The house of Jacques Denis has passed down their cognac-making knowledge (from the vine to the bottle) over many, many decades. Today the house continues to create great quality cognacs that delight those who are privileged enough to stumble across them. At exceptionally good value for money, this is an excellent place for every connoisseur to begin their Jacques Denis journey.
Presentation of the bottle
With branding as bold as its rich mahogany color, this is an eye-catching Cognac from the first glance. Deep green and gold labeling beautiful convey the richness of the Cognac and the essence of history that has gone into its creation. A tall, striking bottle, it boldly takes its rightful place in a collectors cabinet.
How to enjoy
As the age suggests, this Cognac deserves slow, sensual savoring. Enjoy it neat, with plenty of time to allow its delectable aroma and long finish to embody.
I have purchased the Jacques Denis Extra on four different occasions for a total of 10 bottles.
I consider this a former great cognac, currently a good cognac. I feel quality has slipped since the decal change on the cap cover.
Older bottles have an ornate circular design on the foil covering the bottle cap, they were amazing: satisfying viscosity, pleasant sweetness, memorable finish.
Current bottlings have a shield design on the cap, these bottles have the same flavors but they are tainted with an unwanted alcohol presence on the palate: they're thinner, don't have the richness, finish is short.
The nose is a sweet musk that I would describe as concentrated flowers and honey.
It's still good enough I would recommend it over ABK6 Reserve but at the price point Paul Beau Hors D'Age and Ragnaud Soubrin #20 would be my choice.
