Appellation (Cru) & sol: Grande Champagne
Jacques Denis Vieille Reserve Cognac
Jacques Denis Vieille Reserve is a limited edition, truly outstanding quality Cognac from the Grande Champagne: Premier Cru. Blended with eaux-de-vie that was harvested way back in the 1950s and 1960s – this very old Reserve invites those fortunate enough to step back into the portals of time.
Its sumptuous dark golden color and rich aroma reflect on the decades that this Cognac has spent enduring a lengthy maturation process in French oak barrels. While aging this Cognac was able to naturally increase in volume to 44% (a slightly higher than average strength for Cognac), creating a powerful, yet somehow subtle complexity of aromas that reveal the distinct characteristics of the soils in its Grande Champagne terroir.
Produced by a small, family-run Cognac house, Jacques Denis offers hand-crafted, artisan products that boast exceptional essence. As a lesser-known independent Cognac house, this producer is certainly worthy of acquaintance as its outstanding collection offers something for all tastes and budgets.
Presentation of the bottle
Dressed in a classic bottle, Vieille Reserve Cognac displays heritage and tradition from presentation through to tasting. Housed in a simplistic protection tube with an equally historic style label, the presentation is in keeping with the age of this Cognac from start to finish. A delightful offering that makes an ideal gift for any discerning connoisseur.
How to enjoy
This Hors d’Age gem is best enjoyed on its own at room temperature – or when served on the rocks with a few ice cubes in the glass. Standing proud as a Cognac to be appreciated in tandem with other enthusiasts and aficionados – it is sure to impress guests at the dinner table when served as a digestive. Pair with a rich dessert such as a dark chocolate mousse or sip alongside a cigar at the end of the night.
When I opened the bottle of Jacques Denis Vieille Reserve Cognac on a night when I was at home alone, an unpronounceable aroma poured out of my room.
A gingerbread chocolate flavour that I haven't experienced for a long time and an unidentified woody note that fills the nose and is very relaxing.
Take a sip of Cognac. It's rare for the mouth to acquire a round, sweet palate, with a lingering aftertaste of chocolate and honey, and a final revelation of woody notes to remind you of the elegance of this liquid.
A good cognac, to be admired!
Thanks to the Cognac-expert team for the pleasures
