Lavenat XO
Lavenat XO
Reviews (14)
A very nice XO from Lavenat
The colour is a beautiful shiny copper. On the nose baked apples, cacao together with fine spices and rancio (dried mushrooms). On the palate the cognac is mature, but also fresh on orchard fruits, dried fruits and chocolate with a lively acidity. The finish is medium to long on roasted nuts and...
Deserves Its High Score. Decadent
The first smell is baked apples. Then, notes of caramel, wood, nuttiness, and a distant memory of very old high-quality plum brandy (like 20+ years). You can feel the age of the spirit, but there is also a certain very pleasant freshness that contributes to a very fine balance. Dried fruits and...
Lavenat XO
An absolute winner...competes with BIG BRANDS easily. Not cheap but it is worth any penny. My wife prefers it to Hennessy XO and I know why...it lingers in your nose and has this unique cognac aftertaste, a very long one. An X0 in his own class,,,has to come to me again very soon....IMPRESSING! A...
Excellent Titulaire de Fins Bois
Earlier reserved in the nose it shows itself strong in the palate with a prolonged descent typically Fins Bois. (Translated from French) Original review: Plus tôt réservé dans le nez Il se montre fort au palais avec une descente prolongée typiquement Fins Bois.
An amazing Fins Bois
I recently stumbled on this and pulled the trigger. Amazing decision! It's an amazing retro bottle, amazing story and great presentation from Cognac Expert! A smooth, well-balanced XO. An old, could easily be an Extra or so from other producers. Dried fruits, fresh aromas. Just great

Lavenat XO Cognac is a beautifully well-matured blend that spent an average of 30 years aging in French oak barrels - which is 20 years more than required for a Cognac to classify as XO quality. Talk about getting more than what you bargained for? Produced in very small quantities, all of the Cognacs produced by Lavenat have been made with love and unquestionable passion. Fronted by Bernard Lavenat, who takes the role of the cellar master, Bernard doesn’t remember a day when Cognac production wasn’t at the centre of his world. His admirable enthusiasm and passion for the craft are embodied through each and every Cognac in his small collection of products.
Audry Exception

Audry Exception
Nose. Very intense. Cherry, plum, ripe pear, dark chocolate, Christmas spices, oak. Taste: cherry, plum, raisin, cinnamon, cardamom, wood. Finish: long and intense, dominated by dark fruit and old oak. Conclusion: a magnificent old cognac, very intense without being brute, but very balanced,...
Audry Exception Cognac
Tasted from the last sample of the Advent C alendar: The cognac shows a deep amber colour. The nose is dark, complex on fruits and wood; sweet pears and raisins mingle with old dusty wood from a library. On the palate mature and elegant; fine spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves) and a taste of...
Better every time I taste it
I have bought a couple of bottles of this beauty, first time I tasted it I just realized that I needed to secure one more bottle. This is a Fine Champagne 40-60 years old. I recommend everybody to get a bottle as long as the stock lasts. This cognac has a deep dark color, it just looks great. And...
The late taste of cognac
I don't know when, drinking cognac and thinking about beautiful things, that's a great pleasure in life. This cognac has this kind of feeling. I like the pear fruit and pine fragrance very much. Now my sensitive nose is filled with wonderful honey, leather, oak barrels and other flavors. It lasts...
Unique
I really like this cognac. Surprised me at first since I have mostly had Hennessy and Remy XO cognacs. Definitely a pear nose. Flavor is different than the two I mentioned. A little more wood and I think roasted pear flavor. Nice finish making me want to have just a little more. Audry will be...

The oldest and finest of Audry’s blended line of Cognacs, the Audry Excéption Cognac is a stunning blend of Grande and Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie. As a Hors d’Age Cognac, this is a fantastic example of Audry’s ability to handpick and blend their oldest stocks from the cellar. It is aged between 40 and 60 years, and is extraordinarily rare. Enjoy a fruity and rich Exception Cognac with an exceptional rancio that exhibits all of the best characteristics of a mature Fine Champagne treasure: "I am delighted by the most coveted virtue of all great Cognacs; the rancio, this precious gift comes as a result of the oxidation process and a very long ageing period." explains Paul Pacult from Audry.
Conte et Filles Heritage

Recent Winner of the Hor's d'Age CE Family tasting!
I purchased the bottle since it had won the CE family tasting of Hor's d'Age and I have to say so far I do and do not understand why it won. On the one hand it does everything well, balanced with spice and fruit (although I get more spice than fruit) and yet it doesn't seem to do anything extremely...
A new pleasant experience
This is the first time I taste any product from this producer. And I don't think it will be the last time. This cognac has a deep golden color with good tears inside the glass. It is inviting on the nose with tones of toast, citrus, and after some time darker tones like leather and light tobacco....

Conte et Filles Heritage Cognac is a Petite Champagne blend of eaux-de-vie selected from a plot in Nonaville on a southern slope renowned for its limestone, chalky soils. The eaux-de-vie has been aging in Limousin oak barrels since its distillation, making it a very old and well-matured Cognac indeed. Made from Ugni-Blanc grapes, the eaux-de-vie of this Cognac are from the reserve of the current family members grandfather, father and uncle. Therefore, this Heritage Cognac is a product of friendship; a friendship between men who liked to work together, to learn from each other. It shows the passage of time as well as the generations of a family which follow one another in pursuit of the same passion of making quality Cognac.
Chainier XO

Bargain XO
A lovely fresh fruit bouquet greets the nose, along with some subtle nuttiness. As it opens, some mild spice appears. It’s a wonderfully youthful nose, but not young. This is somewhat silky and velvety in the mouth, and is medium bodied. The palate starts rather dry with that fruit, and finishes...
Chainier XO Grande Champagne
Tasted as a part of the Tasting Set No. 1: Decent nose with spicy (vanilla, white pepper) and fruity components mingled with some nice pastry notes. The palate is fresh, light and fruity, some vanilla again together with sweet fruits (pears, pineapples). The finish is short to medium on the same...
Chainier XO GC
Just opened this bottle, and it seems a revelation. There is no sharpness in the throat, it comes from below! Exceptionally charming feeling, it comes up in grades to the nose and palate. Fantastic aromatic XO, exciting flair. On my list ,and I tried a lot of such, it is the best experience so far...
Chainier XO Grande Champagne
Nose: Nice nose here! It smells like there is a lovely alliance between fruit and spice. It does not have the age where a strong oak signature might stick out, and even though twenty years old is anything but young for a Cognac, it does not yet have the maturity to hit the wafty aroma profile like...

This wonderful old Cognac has spent over two decades aging in Limousin oak casks protected by thick cellar walls underneath the House of Chainier. It has been produced exclusively with eaux-de-vie sourced from the Premier Cru, and Chainier XO Grande Champagne Cognac certainly expresses all the complexity and elegance you’d expect from this esteemed region. Aged for significantly longer than what is required by law for an XO designation, this is a great-value product that would delight any Cognac lover.

Sophie & Max Sélection N° 3 marks the perfect continuation of our Sophie & Max Sélection limited edition series. Our passion is to work in close collaboration with small Cognac houses and producers that inspire our imagination. It’s absolutely possible to find people who like doing things a little differently in the seemingly regulated world of Cognac-making. Seph and Thérèse have an enchanting way of operating within this rural setting, brightening it up with their worldly sophistication, open-minded spirit, and humor. It never gets boring “chez les Bertrands.” We love that. The Bertrand family estate is situated in the heart of the Petite Champagne region, where they work full circle, from the vine to the bottle.

Exceptional Cognac - Marancheville Tres Rare Lot N°14/45
Beautiful amber colour with golden reflexes. The nose is really fascinating and complex with ever-changing nuances of ripe fruits ( oranges, mangos, peaches and apricots), vanilla, spices and fine wood. On the palate there is a stunning elegance and finesse for a cognac of this age. You can taste...
Exceptional cognac
It has hints of citrus without being sweet. It is delicate, but robust enough to have with a fine cigar. It is better than many cognacs that cost much more. IMHO, 1914 is the best vintage for cognac that I have tasted. Pairing it with 1945 is a charming idea, and did not detract from the beauty...
An exceptional and unusual cognac
It’s a privilege to try this interesting and historic cognac. Very different from other cognacs I’ve tried. The nose is dominated by woodiness and rose petals. Mouthfeel is dense and almost syrupy. Palate-wise there is almost zero sweetness. Woodiness and rose petals again dominate, and there...
A really outstanding Cognac
This Cognac is truly extraordinary! The nose is a wonderful interplay of fresh citrus fruits and delecate floral notes. On the palate these floral notes predominate in a combination whith aromic oak flavors. The citrus fruits remain modestly in the backround with a delicious freshness. The alcohol...
Unparalleled
This is an exquisite blend of two historically significant vintages. Even if it wasn't great on the nose, palate, or finish, it would still be a special piece of history, but as it happens, it also delivers an experience that leaves you titillating. Upon pouring the nose is woody with cedar and...
Suberb cognac
This is a fantastic cognac that is worth tasting. It is rich on the nose, you will find fruit and some oak. It the mouth it is rather tasty and has a full body. It is elegant with a good consentration. The after-taste lasts forever. This cognac delivered at least as good as I hoped for when I bought...
Marancheville Tres Rare Lot N. 14/45 Grande Champagne
The Cognac pours a golden amber color. Considering its age, it’s quite a light and fresh color. Very promising. To merely use the words aromas or smells would be to entirely understate the nose of this Cognac. Instead, one should talk of perfumes to describe all that the nose encounters in and...
Marancheville 14/45 is amazing!
This is probably the finest Cognac I’ve ever had. Truly a time capsule. Incredibly deep & rich aromas and flavors of rancio, dried fruits such as figs & plums. Extremely long finish that lasts until it’s time for the next sip. Incredible enough that I ordered 2 more bottles despite it being quite...

The house of Marancheville presents us with an outstandingly rare blend of eaux-de-vie from the historic years of 1914 and 1945 for its latest Grande Champagne Cognac. This exceptionally old Cognac from a house known for its class, excellence and endearing humility, was created using a combination of unique eaux-de-vie from a family heritage treasure. Not only does the eaux-de-vie in this blend originate solely from the premier cru of Grande Champagne, but it is also particularly special due to the significance of the years in which the grapes were harvested. The years 1914 and 1945 mark the beginning and the end of the only two World Wars the world has ever experienced, and so this Cognac captures such a significant period in history in its aromas and flavors. By taking a closer look at these two momentous years and how they impacted the Cognac region, we can greater appreciate the eaux-de-vie and those who rose to the occasion so that we can enjoy them in this extremely special Grande Champagne blend today.
Bache Gabrielsen Hors d'Age

The first bottle that I ever bought a second time
I have a review on this that I posted a couple of years ago. I liked it a lot back then, but actions speak louder than words - this is the first bottle of cognac that I have ever purchased again. Just received it and decided to enjoy with a friend and it did not disappoint. The display box is...
Fantastic
I am truly a cognac connoisseur and have tasted over 75 houses and 200 different blends. And I refer only to bottles with XO and more. This cognac is one of my top 25 cognacs and is the best value for money. You should definitely try this cognac for yourself.
Excellent long-aged cognac
Aromas become richer with time. Rancio aroma reminiscent of fine black tea. Plum. Some spices, including cinnamon. Apricot, slight vanilla, fine wood, slight floral notes. The characteristics of Grand Champagne are well expressed. The taste is predominantly spicy but mildly stimulating. Flavours...
Outstanding Hors d'Age Cognac
Bache Gabrielsen Hors d'Age is a mix between the Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche grapes. The oldest eaux-de-vie in the blend reaches back all the way to 1917, and the youngest to around 1960. A lovely blend of fruit and spice greets the nose, with more spice than normal in a Cognac. As it opens, that...
One of my favorite Cognacs
An impressive Cognac that starts with a spicy (but for sure not too spicy!) nose, well balanced. In general, this Cognac is not too smooth, but still easily drinkable with a fantastic long aftertaste. It deserved all the awards it has won! Go for it if you haven’t tasted it yet, it’s one of my...
Love
Of all Hors d'age cognacs I have tasted, trist is by far my favourite. I just love it, a bit on the expensive side, but to me it worth it. For some reason though, it seams that it is not to appreciated, my last bottle I bought on auction for 90 euro. I think that this is a must try cognac otherwise...
Must Try
Like the other reviews I have enjoyed the Bache brand for some time now. This one was special, although its more expensive than in years past, it's still a value. I am tough on my ratings, but this one was exceptional. Not too thin, or thick on the palate. The nose gives you variety of fruity...
A select cognac for select friends
I get a certain sense of excitement every time I bring out the Bache Gabrielsen Hors d’Age. It presents well right out of the box when you are sharing the story and history to those you are about to enjoy it with. The nose is very enjoyable and the taste is long and smooth. I find the combination...
A moment of satisfaction
I've always been aware of the BACHE brand and have had their 15 and 20 year old XO cognacs, but after drinking this bottle of Hors d'Age Grande Champagne Cognac, I have to say that the BACHE cognacs are really impressive. Upon opening the bottle, the overflowing aromas of fruit, flowers and spices...

The Bache Gabrielsen Hors d’Age is a high-end Cognac from the Grande Champagne terroir, and considered to be the “pièce de résistance” of their selection. It consists of a mix between the Ugni Blanc and of the rare Folle Blanche grape, and is exclusively cultivated in the Grande Champagne growing area. The dark amber liquid mirrors its age; the Hors d’Age is a blend made up of eaux-de-vie that has been aged in Limousin oak barrels between 50 and 70 years. The oak barrels give Cognac its full spice experience, and Bache-Gabrielsen use only the best. The oldest eaux-de-vie in the blend reaches back all the way to 1917, and the youngest to around 1960; this is undeniably reflected in the quality of the blend itself. It is a rich Cognac with plenty to show off about, and comprises the best elements of fine Premier Cru produce, such as its long finish.

Worldwide Exclusivity at Cognac Expert
Whereas the XXO Family Series 001 was a blend of two vintage Cognacs from the Fins Bois, this XXO Family Series 002 edition is from the 1985 vintage and is a single cask Cognac - bottled at its natural cask strength 48.6%. It comes from the Grande Champagne cru and was selected by Dale Cooper alongside Stephane Burnez from Maison Prunier. During Cooper’s recent visit to the Cognac region, he visited Prunier’s damp cellars in Gimeaux where hundreds of barrels and dame jeannes peacefully lie, allowing the Cognac inside to mature and come of age.
Ordonneau Très Vieille Réserve

A Unique Borderies Expression
Nose and mouth consistent with apricots, dried fruits, nuts, flowers, and a hint of old Irish pot still whisky. I get pronounced violets, similar to violet candies when I smell it straight from the bottle, but from the glass, I get а flower bouquet I cannot distinguish. Dry and spicy finish on the...
Very varied and definitely worth the money
I am pleasantly surprised by the variety of flavours that this cognac offers. Not necessarily spices, but baking flavours that are difficult to identify in any case. An effort that I am happy to make. Highly recommended, go for it!
Borderies Brilliance
I am impressed by this stuff every time I drink it. It’s just so clean and direct in its delivery that if you like the flavours it will never disappoint. It’s not hugely complex for a spirit of this age, but the tropical fruit in the flower shop nose is great and way the liquid melts intense fruit...
Overrated but prove me wrong
I really did not want to review this or bring the rating down. But I felt compelled to give my personal experience with this Cognac. In all honestly, this was a 3/10 me. Forgive me but maybe it just personal preferences and I am no connoisseur. The nose is harsh, 2 dimensional and forgettable. It...
Pleasing sipper
On the nose: Fruity biscuit with violets, perfume of sumptuous grapes. Palate: Creamy on the palate, toffee caramel, rock sugar apricot, light pleasantly refreshing sourness, some hints of fruits like ripe greengage, a little bit charred vanilla coming up in between, hints of gooseberries, a glimpse...
Cost-effective cognac
Had to wait a little after pouring to enjoy the aromas. Good aromas of violets, dried fruits, apricots, oak and sawdust. Taste very mild. Less spicy. Very little acidity or bitterness, mainly juicy grape sweetness. The mouthfeel is very smooth, with no unpleasant or cloying tastes. Short, sweet...
What a Value
This cognac has lovely hues of a blend of orange and mahogany. The nose has a floral aroma of white flowers, with a bit of leather and cherry. The mouth feel is good and the finish is extremely smooth. This cognac is a very easy drink, no bumps or bruises, just a very easily consumed tipple.
Growth Area: Borderies
Cognac Age: Réserve Cognac

The oldest in the range from this small artisanal Cognac house is the Ordonneau Vieille Réserve Cognac. A true Borderies treasure, Ordonneau source all of their eaux-de-vie from the smallest cru of the region. A large number of the eaux-de-vie in this blend are aged between 25 and 30 years, making it an Hors d’Age quality blend. Offering great value for money, it is a mature Cognac with incredible versatility. The Borderies terroir is renowned for producing eaux-de-vie with very specific and rare aromas. The high clay content of the soil gives a full-bodied Cognac with characteristics of violet and dried fruit. They are indeed highly sought after. A deep golden color as you'd expect from an aged blend, this is a bottle that any Cognac lover will be happy to have in their cabinet.
Navarre Souvenir Impérial

A Classic
There’s a wonderful richness to the nose from the first moment. Plums and prunes, mango, hints of mint and tobacco, with some old leather. Plenty of old oak as well. Magnificent. Deep and a dark like an intense compote with gentle sweetness that rolls into rich, spices. It’s like a fruitcake...
Best cognac I have had so far THANK U JACKY
This is by far my favorite Cognac. The bold and smooth robust flavor with the finish of the walnut with the mango and the aromatic spice! This is truly an extreme palate revelation. The only problem is once you start, you can’t stop. I have to call on the cognac god (Jacky Navarre) to help me stop...
A wonderful surprise!
A wonderful cognac! On one side, with so many positive reviews it wasn't a surprise. But still, when I tasted it for the first time, there was that "wow" moment - A perfect balance between age, complexity, and aromas. Fruity, with hints of floral, wood, and a bit of spice.
The Hors d'Age Cognac - Aromatherapy Session
At the opening - the initial aroma of sweet sour-cream honey light port wine with hints of flowers, like rose petals. Hints of pastry or freshly-baked crepes. No ethanol spirit smell. Alcohol is integrated into the cognac aroma. In The Glass: First 5-7 minutes scent of sour-cream honey,...
Smooth criminal
The sip was tasteful and full of body it was exceptionally robust. I didn’t think that Navarre Souvenir Impérial Hors d’Age Grande Champagne would be sold at the price of a beggar and be so good. Get this one just for the hell of it, you’ll see it was worth it ten folds.
Great cognac, multi-leveled with great finish
I just finished my second bottle of this and will be buying more since it's becoming one of my favorites. It has so many flavors going on I find it difficult to pick out one particular fruit or spice. It's very well balanced between fruit, spice, and some earthy tones. Very good lasting finish.

Jacky Navarre, a magician among the Cognac producers, has stunned the region with his ability to create artisanal bottles such as the Navarre Souvenir Impérial Hors d’Age Grande Champagne Cognac. It is fruity, multifaceted and complex from beginning to end. Aged for half a century, this Hors d’Age is an ‘Imperial’ example of Jacky’s ability to produce Cognac blends from the Grande Champagne. It has undergone a process unlike most: non-chill filtered, nor colored or boiséd with wooden chips. It is, just as it was meant to be - straight from the barrel. The Souvenir Cognac has been distilled in his 30hl Charentais pot still. Navarre is one of the last purists of his kind, and the barrels are oxidized by the humidity of his cellar alone. Allowing nature to do the work, he produces Cognacs with an incredible depth of aromas and undeniable rancio.
