Description
A Vintage Grande Champagne Cognac from 1973
The single cask Delamain Vintage 1973 Grande Champagne Cognac is, as the name suggests, created from eaux-de-vie from the Premier Cru harvest of 1973. The harvest of this year produced some pleasant, lighter wines with marked acidity, perfect for making eaux-de-vie that could stand the test of time. Matured for around four decades in their humid cellars on the banks of the River Charente, this cask lost quite some volume to the ‘angels’, yielding only 396 bottles in total. To reduce the Cognac to bottle strength, Delamain utilized the faibles - older, lower-strength Cognacs - rather than water, ensuring that nothing would dilute the flavor which time has created.
The House of Delamain’s unrivalled passion for creating vintage Cognac has been passed down from generation to generation since 1759, the year when James Delamain left Ireland to settle in Jarnac as a Cognac merchant. His grandson Henri founded Maison Delamain in 1824, and today the 9th generation of the Delamain family still runs the company - with a total of fifteen employees. Known for keeping to extremely old-fashioned production methods, they are also the only Cognac producer which exclusively releases Cognac aged XO or older. While they pride themselves on their Grande Champagne AOC, Maison Delamain prefer to not be tied to any specific winegrower or purchasing contract, instead of selecting individually the finest wines available every year.
For anyone who wants the opportunity to own a truly elegant vintage Premier Cru Cognac - and an opportunity to taste a little bit of history - this is your chance.
Presentation of the Bottle
As with all Delamain releases, this expression comes in a sleek, tall bottle featuring a deep punt. A sleek silver finish on the label and seal gives a premium feel. This Vintage arrives in a matching high-quality Delamain navy and silver presentation sleeve, making it the perfect gift.
