Description
Back to the 90s, Michel Forgeron’s Limited Edition “Barrique” Collection
One of the most exquisite things to come out of the 90’s is the eaux-de-vie distilled into the Michel Forgeron Barrique 97 Cognac. Using high quality Ugni Blanc grapes harvested in the year 1997, this limited edition Cognac was produced at the Michel Forgeron vineyard located in Grande Champagne, the most prestigious region in Cognac production.
What makes this Cognac so special is not only its provenance from one region, the premier cru - but also its single vintage made exclusively with eaux-de-vie distilled in 1997.
This high-end blend has spent more than 20 years in traditional French oak barrels. A must-have product for any discerning Cognac drinker. For a smooth yet flavorsome drinking experience, the expert blenders at Michel Forgeron have reduced the alcohol content of this limited edition to 47% by adding distilled water, this means the Cognac retains the most acute tastes, aromas and intense flavors.
A particularly high quality vintage like this should be saved for a special occasion, perhaps to celebrate an anniversary or a birthday of someone born in this legendary year.
Bottled in January 2018, this limited edition Cognac from the formidable Forgeron estate has prominent aromas of cinnamon and vanilla. It holds particularly sweet aromas of cocoa that dominate, rendering it the ultimate dinner digestif!
The Forgeron family firmly established their roots in the Grande Champagne region in 1909. Now run by the fourth generation, two of the Forgeron brothers deal with the commercial and agricultural sides of the business respectively. The vineyard itself stretches across 24 hectares, growing mostly Ugni-Blanc grapes for their production of top-of-the-range eaux-de-vie.
How to Serve
Enjoy neat or over ice, leaving the Cognac to air for a few seconds before taking in its chocolaty and lightly spiced flavor profile.

Michel Forgeron 97 does not miss
The color is a pleasing shiny patinaed copper. The nose develops over 5 to 10 minutes with elegant reductive qualities of golden caramelized sugar and spice found in Christmas fruitcake with candied apricot and dark cherries. Hints of butter and white pepper playfully intertwine throughout. The...
About Michel Forgeron
Michel Forgeron Cognac’s uniqueness lies in its very special history, its environmental concern and of course in its quest for quality. With a relatively young history, the first cognac under the brand Michel Forgeron was produced in 1977. Their philosophy remains the same as his grandfather’s, who bought the agricultural property at the turn of the century: work better, produce better. Recently, for its hundred year anniversary, Forgeron covered one of the estate’s roofs with solar panels in order to work with sustainable energies for the cognac production.
