Description
A Rare Ugni Blanc Vintage: Claude Thorin 2000 Vintage Cognac
Mention the grape variety of ‘Folle Blanche’, and any Cognac aficionado will tell you about its role in the success and reputation of Cognac. This is the most historic grape variety of them all, dating back to before the 19th century. The Claude Thorin 2000 Vintage Ugni Blanc Cognac is a fine example of the few wine growers that still cultivate the Folle Blanche variety, despite the devastation caused by the phylloxera crisis in the 1880s.
Aged for 19 years in red oak barrels, it is a Vintage Cognac grown on their Grande Champagne estate. Some of the Cognacs in their cellars reach back more than one hundred years old, and their vineyard spans over 100 hectares.
Nowadays, vineyards are planted with other varieties - but it is a rare and beautiful thing when one can blend Folle Blanche with others. Claude Thorin successfully preserves this Millésime Cognac’s uniqueness and ability to age.
How to enjoy
Sip this Cognac at room temperature and neat in a snifter glass. Be aware of the subtle differences of this rare grape variety, aged for 19 years.
