Only 57 bottles were ever made of the François Voyer Collection Personnelle Lot No. 4 Cognac. The eaux-de-vie for this Grande Champagne Hors d'Age expression have been aged between 80 and 90 years, which is one of the reasons we’re not surprised that Whisky Magazine described this as “an absolute must-see.” Voyer's goal is to respect the authenticity of these exceptional eaux-de-vie in order to fully enjoy all the expressions of the terroir. Following this philosophy, the house has not filtered this Cognac, allowing nearly a century of complexity to come through on the nose and palate.
Only the finest high-acidity Ugni Blanc grapes from the Premier Cru have been used for this blend. The house of François Voyer uses French oak barrels from the Limousin, Bercée, Gâvre and Reno Valdieu forests, housed in both damp and dry cellars to optimise the character of each cask that lays in waiting. The result is nothing short of extraordinary.
The Chauchet-Voyer family have been distilling and aging eaux-de-vie in oak barrels since the 1870s – for over five generations. Focusing on the Grande Champagne cru, they work with numerous winegrowers in the area, as the domaine itself is a small-scale producer with only 28 hectares of land. They are, however, dedicated to maintaining a sustainable agriculture approach to protect biodiversity and public health and was one of the first 20 domains to obtain the High Environmental Value (HEV) certification.
Crafted in a classic 19th-century style, the slim bottle features a gold wax seal and medallion complemented by a delicate label with hand-written details. The highly-polished wooden presentation box comes with a metal plaque and a certificate of authenticity.
For the lucky few who get to try this Cognac, we can only recommend that they try it neat at room temperature. Pour it and let it stand for a full 15 minutes before tasting, then take a sip and taste the passing of time. After 90 years of seasons turning, there is no rush. Just enjoy the moment.
Today, La Maison François Voyer owns Pierre Vaudon's family estate, which covers 70 hectares, including 8 hectares of Grande Champagne premier cru vineyards around Saint-Même-les-Carrières. It has also forged links with local winegrowers, some of whom have been perpetuating their expertise for many years. This alliance between tradition and expertise ensures Maison François Voyer a place of honor among the finest Cognac houses, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to quality and excellence.
François Voyer Cognac is a family-run Cognac house that is passionate about every detail of production, which is why their bottles can be found gracing the shelves of the best restaurants in France: Ducasse, Lucas Carton, Laurent and more. The François Voyer family vineyards are in Verrières and Ambleville and their house has been a home to Cognac production since the 1870s. Their product range is classical, with a range of young expressions as well as exceptionally old blends and vintage bottles. The house of Voyer fosters traditional knowledge and attention to detail; here, Cognac isn’t just made -- it’s crafted from scratch.
