Description
Audry The Collection 78 Cognac
Audry The Collection 78 Grande Champagne Cognac celebrates Maison Audry's centennial, embodying their heritage and expertise. This limited edition release features just 288 decanters, each one a testament to the unique history and exceptional craftsmanship of the Maison. The cognac within is a "brut de fût" single cask selection, boasting a 49.4% ABV and presenting a rich aromatic palette that marks it as the prestigious cognac house's very first single cask bottling.
On a rainy autumn day in 2023, in the renowned Charente region, Maison Audry's cellar master discovered a real treasure that had been slumbering in the cellars for nearly 46 years. A batch of Grande Champagne Cognac from 1978, with an exceptional aromatic complexity, was unearthed. After passionate discussions and tastings with family members, it was unanimously decided to bottle this rare find without blending, to preserve its purity and splendor. The first series of 288 decanters was bottled in early 2024, making each bottle a snapshot of history and a bearer of unmatched finesse and elegance.
Presentation of the bottle
The presentation of the decanter pays homage to this exceptional cognac. Housed in a box that contrasts strikingly with an orange interior against a dark green exterior, it radiates prestige. The classic and sturdy decanter, with its thick base tapering elegantly towards the neck and adorned with the Audry emblem, speaks of tradition and quality. A natural wood cork top, wrapped in a textured band, adds a touch of rustic charm, while a ceramic top, developed in collaboration with renowned Bordeaux ceramist Erwan de Renvergé and Maison Audry’s Anne Lesca, provides a noble touch. This ivory-colored enamelled cap, slightly cracked and featuring the Maison Audry coat-of-arms in a beautiful orange hue for a slightly patinated finish, is a craftsman’s object in itself, intended to sublimate the decanter and be preserved over time as a decorative object or a cherished heirloom.
Each bottle is uniquely numbered, highlighting its exclusivity and the special nature of the cognac within. This release is not just a celebration of Maison Audry’s centennial but a tribute to the art of cognac making, the passion for ceramics, and the enduring legacy of craftsmanship that defines the Maison. It's a rare opportunity to own a piece of history, encased in a decanter that is as much a work of art as the cognac it contains.
About Audry Cognac
When Time Magazine reported that ‘the best Cognac you’ve never heard of is Audry’ back in 2005, this small, artisan Cognac house was catapulted into the limelight. Since then, their products have become known in countries throughout the world and among some of the most prestigious restaurants – including those in Europe, Scandinavia and North America. However, just because a few years ago the name of Audry Cognac had not really been heard of outside of France, this does not mean that the house doesn’t have a long and illustrious history.
This family run Cognac house has a story that dates back to 1878, and despite keeping a series of older casks in chai, they stopped selling their bottles in 1950. This has arguably been the secret of their success; in 1978 when Bernard Boisson ignited the renaissance of the Audry Cognac brand, he had one of the most precious cellars of decades-old eaux-de-vie to dive into and begin blending exceptional Cognacs once more.
