The Audry Mémorial is a Fine Champagne blend of 60% Grande Champagne and 40% Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie aged 40 to 45 years. Audry describes it as an invitation to travel through a universe rich in flavours and aromas, delicate and complex. It draws on the old reserves of the family cellar, which Bernard Boisson brought back into use when he revived the house in 1978.
Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne are the two most sought-after crus of the Cognac region. Their chalky soils and mild maritime climate give fine eaux-de-vie that age well over many decades. Audry releases only a limited number of bottles each year.
The eaux-de-vie are distilled in copper Charentais alembics. After a short passage in new oak barrels, they continue their ageing in old barrels in a humid cellar, which gives the Audry Mémorial its roundness and its rancio.
The blend is brought down to 42% ABV by slow, natural reduction, lightly filtered and bottled without additives: no sugar and no caramel.
Neat at the end of a meal, or with a fine cigar.
The Audry Mémorial comes in a tall bottle sealed with black wax, with a white label and gold detailing, and is presented in an orange gift box.
Flavour profile
A personal Top 10 for me. Dark mahogany, with a rich, complex nose: green pepper, apple, tobacco, roasted coffee, cocoa and rancio. The palate is full-bodied and mellow with anis, violet and licorice, closing on a honeyed, satin aftertaste that lingers. Real depth and polish.
