Bache Gabrielsen 5-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky

The Bache Gabrielsen 5-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky, is distilled from unpeated barley grown on the fertile soils of France. At 41.0% vol. and limited to just 3000 bottles, this whisky, aged in ex-American oak Cognac casks, showcases the innovative spirit of the Bache Gabrielsen distillery—a revered name in the Cognac region that now brings its expertise to the art of whisky making.

Serge Valentin's rating

"Whisky by cognac makers, this is becoming pretty common. As long as they don't distill cognac in Scotland… By the way this was aged in ex-cognac and old pineau casks. At least it was 'in-house stuff'. Colour: light gold. Nose: pears and pastry dough, then vanilla custard, roasted peanuts and, guess what? Ta-dah… croissants! Mouth: nice pear liqueur with maple syrup and stewed peaches. TBH it's got something of cognac, especially these preserved peaches and these apricots in honey. The pineau feels more and more too, but we do love old pineau des Charentes (soon at Scottish brands too, some have them already). Finish: medium, very sweet. Pears and peaches poached in sweet white wine. Comments: you could call it a cognacsky or a whisgnac, but honestly, it was very well made.

SGP:731 - 80 points."

Presentation of the bottle

The label carries the weight of the Bache Gabrielsen legacy, while the whisky's warm hue beckons from within its clear glass confines—a visual promise of the quality contained. Each bottle from batch number one represents the distillery's commitment to limited production and exceptional taste.

How to drink

Savor this single malt neat, or with a drop of water to unleash its full spectrum of flavors. It’s crafted for those moments of quiet contemplation, to be enjoyed slowly, allowing the essence of the French terroir and the mastery of the double distillation process to shine through in each sip.

About Bache Gabrielsen Cognac

Bache-Gabrielsen is a medium-sized family Cognac house with an international history. The company was created in 1905, and so it celebrated its 100th anniversary in the last few years. With its clean design, Cognac Bache-Gabrielsen takes an important position in the Cognac market, exporting mainly to Scandinavian countries. Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen, the fourth generation at the head of the company, is certainly aware that the Cognac industry is undergoing changes, with the international market being heavily developed and marketing strategies refined to cater for a younger, more fashionable consumer base. Given the size of the company compared to the major cognac houses, it is surprising to discover that this Norwegian cognac brand is the market leader in the sale of Cognac in Norway!
