Growth area & soil: Petite Champagne
An award-winning single-estate Cognac from the Petite Champagne
Created using eaux-de-vie blended in oak casks and descending from one single area of vineyard, the Philbert Dovecote Cognac takes its name from the plot where the grape is grown - a hill which is overlooked by a medieval dovecote and is beautifully embellished on the label. It is created using rich, fragrant fruits for a full-bodied Cognac, and it is this “dovecote” position on the hill that gives it the perfect sunlight exposure for the fruit to reach full maturity. That combined with the clay-limestone soil which assimilates water regularly in the summer, it is an ideal combination for a stunning Petite Champagne Cognac.
The geology of the Petite Champagne makes for a very special limited-release Cognac. It is located in one of the highest elevated vineyards in the cru, and the Campanian soil is exemplified by high chalk content. The limestone allows for natural humidity to permeate the soil easily, and this creates aromatic, fine Cognacs much earlier than usual.
