Tasting review

Eye: Beautiful bright gold old dress, light amber reflection, and with shades of saffron that give an indication of its age.

Nose: Elegant with notes of dried fruits, spices, citrus and undergrowth. A second fresh and dynamic nose comes to punctuate the aroma with dried flowers, lilies, pressed grapes and saffron.

Palate: The attack is immediately light, yet with a hint of tannins that taste like apple peel. There is a perfect balance between roundness and acidity, with dominant flavors of spices and dried nuts. The finish is expression and well-wrapped up - with a maritime burst at the end.

An Artisan Blend Made in Cognac: L’Affranchi from the Grande Champagne

A contemporary bottling to emerge from the passion of two young Cognac makers, L’Affranchi Cognac is a VSOP of heart and soul. Produced at the heart of a family property in Segonzac, it is a 100% Grande Champagne blend that has been aged for 8 years in oak casks.

The flavors and aromas that emerge from L’Affranchi are complex, and beautifully assembled. The nose is elegant, with aromas of lilies and saffron, with undertones of earth and citrus. The palate is spectacular - an apple-like acidity is rounded off with spices and nuts, and the end is like a burst of sea breeze. This Cognac shows signs of true, artisanal blending.

Born out of a passion for savoir-faire and passion, L’Affranchi is the result of a beautiful friendship between young producers Germain Raby and Axel Fretigné. Carried out entirely on the family estate, they have selected the most stunning eaux-de-vie from the cellars in Segonzac to bottle it there and create their very first Cognac, along with their very own distilled gin.

The name ‘Confidential’ refers to the silkscreen of the bottle that has a photo of one of the producer’s grandfather. When he was young, he was a smuggler in the Basque region - but it also represents the fact that the gin is produced in the heart of a Cognac property.

The name of the Cognac, ‘L’Affranchi’ perhaps subtly points to him - best translating to ‘a wise guy’ in English.

Presentation of the bottle
