I have been blindtasting wine on a regular basis with a group of friends for mor than thirty years and got more and more fascinated by spirits during the last five years. After exploring r(h)ums and whisk(e)y I finally got into Armagnac and Cognac. I am happy to be able to continue this interesting journey.

Lassalle Baqué 1992 Brut de Fût Armagnac - an amazing step-up from the regular 1992

A rich and opulent nose on spices, wood and sweet dried fruits (figs, apricots, dates). Tasted H2H with the regular 1992 a nice step-up of intensity and complexity.
Also on the palate the Brut de Fût shows more intensity and sweetness compared to the regular 1992 and the finish is quite long on dried fruits, fine wood and spices again. The higher ABV is perfectly integrated here and this Armagnac is nicely improving with time on air.

A small sip: Allow your taste buds in the various areas of your mouth to distinguish the different flavours. This part of cognac tasting is described as ‘the palate’. Don’t just swallow it down; allow the liquid to touch all the regions of the mouth. Doing this is necessary as the taste buds pick up contrasting flavours in the different areas of the mouth; on the tip of your tongue to the sides, for example. Take a tiny sip to prep your palate for the sensory experience to come. Take a second larger sip, and gently roll the cognac around, etting it come into contact with every corner of your mouth. Focus on the perceived textural sensations. Are the sensations round and rich or fresh and elegant? Is the overall mouthfeel intense, balanced, disjointed, or lacking presence? In short, how does the cognac feel in your mouth?
