Description
Mauxion Petite Champagne Lot 56: a Stunning Single Harvest
This exceptional Cognac was distilled in a wood-fired boiler (in contrast to the gas boilers of today) before being laid down in French oak casks and aged in clay cellars underneath the family castle. Dating to the mid-50s, the Mauxion Petite Champagne Lot 56 is the product of a single harvest, making it a wonderful snapshot into the past. In order to preserve its most delicate aromas, it has not been chill-filtered and is presented at a generous cask strength of 45%.
The origin of the Mauxion family goes back to 1575 when Pierre Mauxion was born in the village of Houlette, still home to the Mauxion family after thirteen generations. Antoine Mauxion was the first of the family to produce eaux-de-vie, back in 1743, and since then ten generations have followed in his traditions of caring for the vineyard, making wine and distilling in a traditional copper pot still.
Uniquely, Mauxion Selection offers a range of single crus in different sizes, including Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. To preserve their flavor fully, they are bottled at cask strength and without any blending and the long maturation these Cognacs go through allow them to develop exceptional complexity and depth.
How to Enjoy
This outstanding vintage Cognac is one for the tulip glass. Mauxion has chosen to bottle it at cask strength, allowing the drinker to make a choice between drinking it neat or adding a dash of water to lower the alcohol percentage.

Great Cognac - Mauxion Petite Champagne Lot 56
Deep amber colour with golden highlights. Excellent on the nose, complex and changing over time. Fine pastry notes, but also dried fruits like apricots, mangos, raisins and peaches; sweet winey nuances, quince jelly, a tiny mushroom, then juicy oranges for a change - a pleasure just to smell for...
