The Merlet L'esprit de Guy Cognac is something truly special. Overproof at 43.9% and 100% Fins Bois, this is a blend of an extremely old Cognac and one from 1948. And the reason for this? Well, it's a cognac created by the Merlet family to honor the ledgend that was Guy Merlet.
Guy was a true character i the village of St Sauvant, where the Cognac house is located. Third generation of the family, he's the father of Gilles, and grandfather of Pierre and Luc. The reason the cognac is from the Fins Bois terroirs is because this was the only 'cru' distilled by the family during Guy's lifetime. And his son, Gilles, was borin in the year 1948, hence the inclusion of a Cognac from this year.
Merlet L'esprit du Guy Cognac has been producted in an extremely limited edition. Presented in a handcrafted, French-made, Cognacaise bottle, each is numbered and further personalzed with a glass stamp from the house of Merlet. This beautiful bottles is then presented in a box made from two local woods - walnut and oak - to symoblize the peasant roots of Saintonge and the tradition of the art of Cognac.
A cognac for a special occasion.

Tasting review by Merlet Cognac:
Eye: Delicate amber, proof of a perfectly mastered maturation
Nose: Intense, notes of ripe fruits (peach, apricot), almost candied (orange), followed by subtle aromas of cedar & spices (eg cinnamon)
Palate: Soft, round, full-bodied & fresh. Fruit is still present & the woodiness is mellow. The aromas blend elegantly. Long finish, slightly peppery, hint of bitterness
