Description

Godet Hors d’Age returns for one last time! Since we genuinely enjoyed that Cognac, we’ve decided to bring back the Godet Hors d’Age but this time in a standard 700ml bottle. This will be the final opportunity to get this Godet Hors d’Age Cognac bottled at 42% abv. It is a multi-cru Cognac blend containing eaux-de-vie that span multiple centuries, with Cognac from the 21st, 20th, and 19th centuries making up the blend - although the amount of 19th century Cognac in the final blend is likely small. It’s a “beyond age” Hors d’Age by definition, with an equally appealing beyond age retro label.

Nose: The Godet Hors d'Age provides a fruity aroma of stewed apricot, combined with tinned yellow peach and nectarine. The slightest presence of fragrant varnished wood subtly elevates the profile without the heaviness usually associated with oak, likely attributed to Godet's utilization of old fine-grained oak. An accent of orangey candied citrus complements the nose, providing a nice fruit sweetness that's neither overwhelming nor brash. A slight spirit note is also discernible, serving to enhance the overall precision of the Cognac. There is good depth but this is not dark or brooding Cognac, but rather a higher pitched Cognac without significant spice, revealing a delicate and richly fruited, inviting profile.

Palate: The palate arrives with a very soft texture that gives an immediate impression of high drinkability. This pleasant texture is harmoniously paired with a pleasing note of stewed fruits and fruit pastes - never veering far from the above-mentioned yellow and orange fruits. A hint of wax or resin is detected, balancing the fruitier flavors, and lending a nice edge that uplifts the Cognac. The alcohol degree is well measured. The overall profile is supple, fine, and delicate - a balanced, complex and higher pitched Cognac suitable for all types of Cognac drinker.

Finish: The finish is medium in length, leaving an aftertaste that mirrors the same fruits found on the nose and palate. The finish delivers easy pleasure, tying the tasting experience together in a satisfying, well-rounded manner. Overall, a versatile and accessible Cognac, offering a refined balance and subtlety that can be enjoyed in a variety of settings and seasons - but always in good company.
