Description
ABK6 Extra The One Cognac
ABK6 Extra The One Cognac is an Extra Cognac produced by Domaines Francis Abécassis, one of the largest independent vineyard owners in the Cognac appellation. This expression is built from eaux-de-vie drawn from the Fins Bois and Petite Champagne crus, using 100% Ugni Blanc grapes grown on the estate. The vineyards named for this release include Domaine de Chez Maillard in Fins Bois and Domaine du Maine Drilhon in Petite Champagne. The house works with on-site vinification, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, and Charentais copper pot stills for double distillation on the lees. This production profile gives the Cognac a broad aromatic range, a textured palate, and a long finish that stays precise rather than heavy.
The aging regime is a key part of the style. According to the producer information, the eaux-de-vie are first matured in new French oak barrels for six to eight months before being moved into older casks for further aging over many years. The barrels are 400 litres and made from French Limousin oak with a coarse grain. This approach allows the spirit to take on structure in the early stage, then continue to evolve more slowly in seasoned wood. For ABK6 Extra The One, the final blend is drawn from old reserve stocks, including eaux-de-vie held in the house’s Paradis cellar. The result is a Cognac that combines mature oak influence with preserved fruit, honeyed depth, and freshness.
In the glass, ABK6 Extra The One Cognac shows an old gold colour. The nose opens with cedar wood, candied fruit, and honey, then develops further with warm wood tones and a gentle sense of richness. On the palate, the house style moves toward candied fruits, cinnamon, and oak, with a long finish supported by citrus notes, cigar box, and candied orange. The overall profile is full but controlled. It offers depth without becoming overly dense, and the oak remains integrated into the fruit rather than dominating it. This makes it suitable for drinkers who want an aged Cognac with clear structure and a polished, steady progression from nose to finish.
The choice of crus also matters here. Fins Bois often brings round fruit and early openness, while Petite Champagne contributes lift, tension, and length. In ABK6 Extra The One, that combination gives the blend both width and line. The fruit notes keep the Cognac accessible, while the older oak and cellar-aged reserves add a more settled character. The production details supplied by the house also point to mature vineyard material, with an average vine age of around 40 years. That is relevant because older vines can help produce fruit with concentration while still keeping the base wine suited to distillation. Taken together, the estate-grown Ugni Blanc, lees distillation, long cask aging, and reserve selection explain why this Extra Cognac feels layered without losing clarity.
Domaines Francis Abécassis has also built a strong reputation beyond this single bottling. The producer was named IWSC Cognac Producer of the Year in 2019, and the estate reports High Environmental Value Level 3 certification. Those details do not define the taste on their own, but they do help place ABK6 Extra The One within a larger estate-led approach: vineyard control, in-house production, and a consistent focus on blending old eaux-de-vie into a style that remains direct and expressive. For a drinker looking for an Extra Cognac that balances mature wood, candied fruit, honey, spice, and citrus lift, this release sits in a convincing middle ground between richness and freshness.
Presentation of the bottle
No product image was provided with your request, so I am not adding a visual description of the bottle itself. For shop use, this release is best presented as a high-end ABK6 Extra Cognac that emphasizes old reserve eaux-de-vie, estate-grown Ugni Blanc, and the combination of Fins Bois and Petite Champagne. That positioning is accurate to the information available and keeps the focus on the liquid rather than on unverified packaging details.
How to drink
ABK6 Extra The One Cognac is best served neat in a tulip-shaped glass so the cedar, honey, candied fruit, cinnamon, and citrus notes can open gradually. Let it rest in the glass for a few minutes before tasting. Start with small nosing passes rather than a deep inhale, then take a slow sip to follow the progression from fruit and oak into the longer finish of orange, cigar box, and spice. This Cognac suits the end of a meal, especially when shared slowly, and it also works well as a quiet after-dinner pour when the goal is to focus on aroma and texture rather than volume.

Pleasant experience
This is the top model from this producer, and a parallel to Leyrat Glory. It is blend of Petite Champagne and Fins Bois matured in cask for about 50 years. It has a remarkable nice color - deep golden. I looks great. On the nose it is a bit reserved. I find notes of orange, cigar box and some honey....
Remarkable Quality
This Cognac by ABK6 is my favorite of the Abecasis family. I didn't find the bottle here in Italy, so I ordered it online via this online shop. What a great blend! Totally love the packaging and the decanter.. the nose is simply incredible. It's very complex, dark fruits.. and the taste is very long...
About ABK6 Cognac
Owned by Francis Abécassis (a homonym of ABK6 when pronounced in French), ABK6 Cognac is a relatively young brand based in the Domaine de Chez Maillard near the village of Claix. The brand is known for its choice to produce single estate Cognacs, with its eaux-de-vie being carefully selected from their 220 hectares of land, specifically for their aromatic intensity and indulgence. The label has shaken up the industry by introducing a young and modern spirit to a traditional drink, without compromising on quality. The company is now one of the largest independent producers in Cognac, and also owns the brands Leyrat, Reviseur and Grands Domaines. Attention to detail is applied to every single aspect of production at ABK6, with sustainable growing methods, Charentaise distillation and precise blending. It’s no wonder the group has taken home over 60 awards in recent years.
