Description
Dudognon VSOP Cognac: Ancient Skill, Modern Outlook
This young and exuberant Cognac has been crafted from eaux-de-vie made with 10% Montils grapes and 90% Ugni Blanc grapes from the Grand Champagne growing region. The Dudognon VSOP Cognac has been distilled over a wood fire in two copper stills dating from 1901 and 1936, before being aged in new Limousin oak casks for a minimum of four years - all resulting in classic Premier Cru style and finesse. While the Dudognon-Buraud family look to the past for their Cognac know-how, they have created here a wonderful modern expression that works just as well in cocktails as it does on its own.
The House of Dudognon are a family of winegrowers who have been feeding their land for several generations. Whilst Dudogne primarily harvest Ugni Blanc grapes, by taking care of the vines and respecting the fragile balance of soil, they have also reclaimed Folle Blanche and Montils which were abandoned grape varieties, following the phylloxera crisis in Charente around sixty years ago. As a result, this savvy cognac house is able to produce fabulous white wines with a wide aromatic range for distillation.
Presentation of the Bottle
The Dudognon VSOP Cognac is presented in a simple bottle, with a gold embellished logo. Gold foil on the neck and classic calligraphy text on the label gives a vintage feel, a nod to the traditional approach of this small producer.
How to Enjoy Dudognon VSOP Cognac
This fresh and expressive VSOP is great before dinner as well as after. Serve neat in tulip glasses at room temperature as a digestif, or over ice as an aperitif. It would pair exceptionally well with a fresh sheep’s cheese or Roquefort cheese.
About Dudognon Cognac
The family at Maison Dudognon have been distilling Cognac since 1776. Over the centuries, their efforts have resulted in many gold medals; the current owner Claudine, as well as her father and great-grandfather, have all been recognized for their skill and brilliance. Over the generations, they have nourished and worked the soil, respecting the delicate balance of the soil to produce quality grapes. Their location in the heart of the Grande Champagne region allows them to create outstanding eaux-de-vie, using Ugni Blanc grapes as well as more traditional varieties like Folle Blanche and Montils. In the name of tradition, Claudine also swears by the use of wood-fired stills - just like her ancestors did.
