Eye: Rich mahogany.

Nose: Like opening an old cigar box. Hints of smoke and tobacco leaf blend with carved wood. Scents of balsamic vinegar and dried orange peel add incredible depth.

Palate: Powerful, with an instant attack of oak, softened by a syrupy mouthfeel. The finish is slightly bittersweet and seemingly endless, reminiscent of an old whisky.

Please note: Upon receiving the product, there may be some changes to the final bottle design. This is because each and every bottle is a unique one of a kind and will be produced individually - on demand.

Please note that the label of the bottle in the picture differs slightly. The above mentioned growth area is correct.

Description

Mauxion Fins Bois Lot 49: Mid-20th Century Elegance

An extremely rare Cognac, this release hails from the municipality of Saint-Georges d’Antignac in the Fins Bois region. Stephane Burnez and Thibault Mauxion sourced this sublime Cognac and personally hand-picked a cask for the prestigious Mauxion Selection series, in order to share its exceptional taste with the world. Mauxion Fins Bois Lot 49 was distilled shortly after World War II and bottled in 2016 at a cask strength of 45% (‘brut de fut’). In order to preserve its most delicate aromas, it has not been chill-filtered.

The origin of the Mauxion family goes back to 1575 when Pierre Mauxion was born in the village of Houlette, still home to the Mauxion family after thirteen generations. Antoine Mauxion was the first of the family to produce eaux-de-vie, back in 1743, and since then ten generations have followed in his traditions of caring for the vineyard, making wine and distilling in a traditional copper pot still.

Uniquely, Mauxion Selection offers a range of single crus in different sizes, including Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. To preserve their flavor fully, they are bottled at cask strength and without any blending and the long maturation these Cognacs go through allow them to develop exceptional complexity and depth.

How to Enjoy

Rare old casks like this deserve attention: pour gently into a tulip glass and let it rest for 30 seconds before taking a sip. To allow the aromas to open up further, a small dash of mineral water could be added.
