Description
Malternative Belgium Cognac No. 24 Laurichesse
This extraordinary single cask Cognac from the mid-1970s represents the pinnacle of the Grande Champagne. Crafted meticulously with a wood-burning traditional Charentais still, it has been patiently aged in oak until its bottling on August 1, 2023. Remarkably, Malternative Beligum managed to acquire an entire cask from this esteemed cellar for the third time, marking their third Laurichesse release - and with good reason! Those who remember the first two offerings will recall their outstanding reception! If this Cognac house hasn't caught your attention before, now really is the time.
Immediately upon the initial scent, the nose is greeted to a sheer delight, a burst of matured fruits like papaya, persimmon (kaki), and candied sugared orange, with undertones reminiscent of mature Sauternes. Tasting it reveals a harmonized profile, combined with a notable waxy and velvety texture. It's akin to the sensation of entering a chai in the Charente, sensing the lively interplay of wood aging beautiful old spirit. The salivating rancio, coupled with earthy and mineral traces, adds layers to its intricate aroma and flavor profile. The culmination offers an abundance of fruitiness, primarily mandarins, a refreshing hint of mint tea, and a caramel undertone, weaving together in perfect harmony.
