Cognac Jean Grosperrin “Tresor” No.25 - from the Grande Champagne
The best thing about a Cognac from Jean Grosperrin, is its mysterious origins. Grosperrin “Tresor” No.25 Grande Champagne Cognac comes from a single barrel of 400 liters, and has been referenced for many years in the Grosperrin cellars. It was only during an inventory in 2015 that they became aware of its exceptional quality. This is a rare treasure that should not be missed. It has been proofed slightly higher than usual at 42.1% ABV, and no additives or colorings are added to Grosperrin Cognacs.
The Grande Champagne has millions of years of geology to thank for its unique make-up. It has typically chalky soil and a maritime climate. Approximately 85 million years beforehand, the area made up the Atlantic seabed, when sea levels were particularly high. Millions of fossils were deposited, forming the fine Cognac and lengthy mature Cognacs that linger.
As with the other Cognacs at the Grosperrin estate, the cask had been stored in a tiny cellar with no electricity, and had never been topped up after a large amount had evaporated. They were left with far smaller stocks, and it is for this reason that the remaining spirit has been guarded carefully and maintained to the highest of standards by Grosperrin Maison.
Grosperrin believes that the quality of a Cognac is directly related to the quality of the individual producing and maturing it. By visiting each winegrower and vineyard, hearing the story of the distillery and maturing techniques, he understands the precious nature of a Cognac before even tasting it. Each one of the Cognacs that Grosperrin select and age for the Collection tells its own story - one of older Cognac making techniques, without technology or guaranteed abundant harvests.

About Grosperrin Cognac
The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.
Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
