A limited edition Bertrand Hors d'Age Heritage Cognac
Discovering the potential of the eaux-de-vie of this Cognac in the 1960s was what led Raymond Bertrand to preserve them in his cellar for years to come. More than half a century on, and his grandchildren decided to share the legacy by creating the Bertrand Heritage Cognac. Harnessing an incredible amount of savoir-faire, Raymond Bertrand distilled the eaux-de-vie for this wonderful Hors d’Age Cognac over lees, in small wood fired stills of 8 hectoliters. Then aged in red Limousin oak barrels, the result is a single lot series limited to a precious 500 bottles.
Bertrand use the most exclusive Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie, and Ugni Blanc vines planted in the fine, chalk and limestone soil. Despite its name, this is the larger terroir of the Fine Champagne, and produces the finest aromas and flavors thanks to millions of years of fossilization and the maritime climate.
The Bertrand Heritage arrives in a classic bottle, with a first-rate golden box that will look wonderful on display. It is everything you would expect from a Cognac of this quality.

The Bertrand Cognac story
The history of Bertrand Cognac dates back to 1731, where they have been working from the Domaine des Brissons de Laage at the heart of the Petite Champagne. The trademark symbol of the estate is the Windmill of Bel’Air which is also the last of the town of Reaux. Surrounded by their vines, this family run estate lives and breathes its history, heritage and quality of its eaux-de-vie.
How to serve the Bertrand Hors d’Age Heritage
This finely matured Cognac has been found to pair beautifully with a Cuban cigar. The terroir from which this Cognac hails draws parallels with the Cuban terroir of Vuelta Abajo, which produces fine cigars. In particular, Bertrand recommend the Siglo VI from the Cohiba range.
The Bertrand Heritage also perfectly complements deer fillet with a hazelnut crust, oyster mushrooms sautéed in hazelnut oil, or for dessert a range of chocolate pastries such as a chocolate finger, praline (feuillantine praliné), and caramel (cœur caramel). This is one of the most complex bottles of cognac I have had to date.
I got together with my family over Christmas and opened this bottle of Cognac, which we all always thought was a very complex cognac.
Upon opening the bottle it first spilled out with aromas of duck pear and vanilla vanilla, followed by notes of honey and milk sugar.
The first sip is very pleasant, with fig and fruit preserves presenting themselves over and over again, before the chocolate, cardamom, honey and pine notes come to the fore and the finish lingers. The cake's and barrel and cigar stay in the mouth for a long time.
A good cognac!
The Best Wooden Barrel Experience
The nose was first banana, cake and cream, then fresh grapes and then a beautiful rancio.
The taste was multilayered, first with great oak, fresh white grapes, and a slight citrus.Then we found a variety of heated fruit and pepper.
The finish was very long, with a rancio and black grapes.
I think this is a great bottle for those who like oak flavors.
I like fruity cognacs and I was impressed with this one.I would recommend this to not only cognac lovers, but also whiskey lovers who like fruit tart flavors and red wine cask.

Bertrand Heritage is a 50+ YR old Cognac produced from 100%
Petite Champagne, and bottled at Cask Strength, 49.2%. Only
500 Bottles. Fruit, floral, and some spice notes lead off on the
nose, with some lovely rancio joining over time. Just a
phenomenal nose that makes you want to crawl up in the glass.
Everything is so well balanced for this age. Fruit, some honey,
and the rancio are harmoniously balanced with some wood
spice on the palate. Just incredible! I really think the cask
strength elevated what was already a stellar Cognac!! My score was 98
