The Domaine Fradon XO Petite Champagne Cognac is a remarkable spirit that captures the essence of the Petite Champagne terroir. Made exclusively from Ugni Blanc grapes and distilled with lees, this Cognac reflects decades of expertise passed down through five generations of the Fradon family. The distillation process includes the use of two alambics: a small 5-hectoliter still that distilled for the last time in 1970, and a larger 20-hectoliter still. Aged in humid cellars on earth floors, this Cognac has matured in oak barrels from the Tonnellerie JOBIT, using a mix of coarse and fine-grain wood with strong toasting (chaffe forte), which contributes to its robust flavor profile.
This XO Cognac has been aged for an impressive 45 years, developing deep complexity and richness. Its color is completely natural, only a small touch of syrup is added to enhance the sweetness without overpowering the authentic characteristics of the Cognac. The result is a spirit that balances tradition and innovation, with a rich amber hue that reflects its decades-long maturation. On the nose, the Cognac exudes a classic Charentais rancio, with bold aromas that transport you to the heart of the region. On the palate, it delivers a harmonious blend of fruit, floral, and spice notes, with delicate hints of licorice. The finish is exceptionally long, offering a lingering aromatic experience that delights the senses.
Anecdotally, a portion of this Cognac was distilled in the 5-hectoliter still, marking a piece of history from the last time it was used in 1970. This unique detail adds another layer of significance to an already extraordinary spirit.
Founded in 1930, Domaine Fradon continues to be a bouilleur de cru (estate distiller), with Damien Fradon currently serving as maître de chai, overseeing production from their 40 hectares of vineyards in the Petite Champagne region. With a commitment to preserving their family traditions, the Fradon family continues to produce Cognacs that stand as true representations of their terroir.
The Domaine Fradon XO Petite Champagne Cognac is available in either a carafe or a traditional bottle, both beautifully designed to reflect the history and quality of the spirit within. Whether displayed as part of a collection or given as a luxurious gift, the presentation of this Cognac is as captivating as its contents.
To fully appreciate the rich and layered complexity of the Domaine Fradon XO, it is best enjoyed neat, allowing its deep flavors to unfold with each sip. This Cognac is perfect for moments of reflection, celebrations, or as the ultimate conclusion to a fine dining experience. Let the Cognac breathe in the glass for a few moments to release its full aromatic potential before indulging in its exquisite taste.
Tasted from a sample of this year´s Advent calendar. Light amber colour. Fine nose on quinces, dried, sweet citrus peels, spices and orchard fruits. Citrus fruits, apples and pears on the palate together with spicy notes. The finish is elegant and of medium length. A very fine cognac for this...
This is the first time I taste this cognac. 45 year old Petite Champagne should always be interesting. This cognac has a nice darker color. On the nose it is elegant with tones of citrus and dried fruits. In mouth it is quite delicate with both spices and fruity notes. The finish is also nice. This...
Nose: A mix of pears, quinces, apricot and yellow apples with stewed nuances and hints of tropical fruits. Interestingly, it has some fruity notes that can be found in much younger cognacs but concentrated with more depth and density. A bit of vanilla and fine oak touch that reveal its age. Palate:...
Very delicate, gentle, yet very rich and elegant. Wonderful.
