Eye: A glowing amber color.

Nose: A prevailing rancio with notes of undergrowth. There are brighter and fresher notes on the second nose, such as hawthorn, dried roses, white flowers, chestnut honey.

Palate: The attack is frank and fragrant with powerful aromas and slightly musky notes that lead to a long and refreshing finish.

Описание

Grosperrin 1970 Petite Champagne

A beautifully atypical Cognac, Grosperrin 1970 Petite Champagne, this vintage Cognac comes from a family of notaries who has lived in Cognac for several generations. The Petite Champagne 1970 was part of the father's estate, who had passed on his stocks to his wife and son, a notary like himself.

We do not know the precise terroir of this Cognac, except that the wines come from the vicinity of Châteauneuf-sur-Charente, a beautiful terroir of Petite Champagne where it was distilled by a small distillery founded in 1958 which still exists today. This is a Cognac that has spent more than 50 years in oak barrels, including 40 years in “country cellars” rented by ORECO, and the last eleven years in the Grosperrin cellars.

Revealing a pronounced rancio, this aromatic profile is often one of the markers of the 1970 vintage year; they are found in many Cognacs from this harvest year, and for this reason, this vintage was often used in blends in the 1990s and 2000s, in order to "give old" to newer and fewer complex Cognacs which have become rare today.

The house of Grosperrin collaborates with more than 150 local Cognac businesses spread across all six of the Cognac growing areas. In total, Grosperrin has contact with almost 4,300 farms which make up the rich and diverse grapes of the Cognac region. With years of buying and selling expertise under its belt, the house of Grosperrin sources the finest eaux-de-vie the region has to offer. This is done all in the hope of achieving their ultimate ambition of achieving the finest expressions of the terroir.

Presentation of the bottle

Displayed in a contemporary decanter, the presentation of this Cognac offers a touch of tradition through the bottle's heavy base and long slim neck. Stamped with the Grosperrin brand label, the bottle illustrates the vigorous detail that has gone into producing such a rare and special Cognac. The glimmering amber color of the eau-de-vie inside, alongside the bottle’s elegant form, allows this Cognac to sit beautifully as a table centerpiece or, amongst others, in the drinks cabinet.

How to enjoy

A delightfully well-aged Cognac like this one merits your utmost attention during the tasting. Enjoy neat at room temperature to appreciate the Cognac in its entirety. To allow the aromas to develop even further, try adding a drop of mineral water or a couple of ice cubes to the glass.

О Grosperrin Cognac

The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.

Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
