Tasting review

Taylor's comment: "Bags and bags of tropical fruits and fruit pastes. Only mature Grande Champagne Cognac, in the hands of a standout producer like Jean Fillioux, can pull this off."

Nose: Immensely tropical, mango, papaya, vine peach, blood orange, flower honey, various dried berries, exotic. Thrilling fruits!

Palate: Velvet texture, high drinkability, tremendous mature Grande Champagne cru fruits: apricot, mango, guava, fig jam. You could almost smear this on some bread and eat it. Floral honey, exotic, and full of rancio notes. Pristine mature Grande Champagne fruits in all their splendor!

Finish: Very long, exotic, fresh acidity, rancio, preserved jammy exotic fruits

Growth area & soil: Grande Champagne

Description

Through the Grapevine Lot 63 Grande Champagne Jean Fillioux Cognac

The Through the Grapevine Jean Fillioux Lot 63 Grande Champagne Cognac is a liquid chronicle of history and tradition. Hailing from Juillac-le-Coq in the heart of Grande Champagne, this 44% ABV cognac, contained in a 0.7L bottle, is a testament to the Fillioux family's legacy since 1894. Crafted primarily from colombard and ugni blanc grapes and aged in coarse-grained Limousin oak barrels, this cognac embodies the family's motto: "Ascend to great heights to see far." Distilled in 1963 and aged in a temperate cellar, it was reduced slowly before bottling in September 2022, resulting in a complex, fruit-forward profile with floral undertones.

Presentation of the bottle

Encased in an elegant coffret, the bottle of Jean Fillioux Lot 63 is a visual treat. Its design resonates with the cognac's storied past, blending classical aesthetics with modern sensibilities. The clear glass beautifully showcases the cognac's rich color, while the label proudly bears the Fillioux name, inviting you into a world of refined taste and legacy. This bottle is not merely a vessel; it's a gateway to the rich tapestry of Grande Champagne's history.

How to drink

The best way to enjoy the Jean Fillioux Lot 63 is to drink it neat. Serving it in a snifter at room temperature will allow you to fully appreciate its intricate flavor profile. The slow sipping of this cognac unveils layers of complexity, making it a perfect choice for reflective moments or as a luxurious treat to cap off a fine dining experience.
