An Aged Masterpiece From Delamain

Matured in well-seasoned Limousin oak, Delamain’s Extra de Grande Champagne is a blend from different distillers of the premier cru region of Cognac, where each Cognac is aged separately, the final aging takes place in one barrel for another two years - referred to as the ‘marriage’ process, a signature of this house. The family-owned Maison Delamain are rare in that they produce only Cognacs of exceptional age, rather than the younger VS and VSOP bottlings favored by other producers. Showing deep maturity and a full-bodied bouquet, it’s no surprise that this Cognac was declared “a masterpiece”  by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. 

Before bottling, all of Delamain’s eaux-de-vie lay waiting in their humid cellars on the banks of the River Charente. Each cask is exclusively crafted from aged French oak, allowing the closely-packed fibres of the wood to limit the influx of tannins. In turn, this helps to preserve the fruity flavours and more subtle nuances of the Cognac, but it also requires a longer maturing process. The different eaux-de-vie of the blend are aged separately for several years before being married together in a cask for a minimum of two years, allowing the flavors to fully  integrate and develop in harmony. Finally, to reduce their Cognac to bottle strength, Delamain utilize the faibles - older, lower-strength Cognacs - rather than water, ensuring that nothing dilutes the flavor crafted by time.

This unrivalled passion for creating vintage Cognac has been passed down from generation to generation since 1759, the year when James Delamain left Ireland to settle in Jarnac as a Cognac merchant. His grandson Henri founded Maison Delamain in 1824, and today the ninth generation of the Delamain family still runs the company - with a total of fifteen employees. While they pride themselves on their Grande Champagne AOC, Maison Delamain prefer to not be tied to any specific winegrower or purchasing contract, instead of selecting individually the finest wines available every year. The Extra de Grande Champagne bottle is a decanter which has been designed and blown exclusively for Delamain. The shield on the front comes from an original plate made by Henry Delamain in 1762 at his delftware factory in Dublin for the wedding of his nephew James Delamain to Marie Ranson. An oversized, royal blue presentation box completes this luxurious package.
