In a beautiful blend of carefully selected Fins Bois and Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie, the Braastad VSOP Cognac has been aged for a minimum of four years in Limousin oak barrels, stored in the superb cellar of the Chateau de Triac on the Tiffon-Braastad estate in Jarnac.
Stored for an average of 8-10 years, it offers a "round and mellow" flavor profile that boasts wonderful notes of spices and chocolate with a particularly elegant floral bouquet on the nose. It has been celebrated by connoisseurs for its delicate and well-balanced finish.
The Braastad VSOP Reserve has an opulent and harmonic character, with each individual aroma succeeding the other in a symphony of subtle flavors. This particular VSOP won the Gold Medal in three separate years in 2003, 2005 and 2007 for the ‘Best VSOP Cognac’ category at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London, complimented for its excellent quality and finesse.
A simple yet visually appealing design houses the Braastad VS, as the estate takes a no-nonsense approach to packaging, allowing the award-winning Cognac housed within to express itself only upon its very first sip. The royal blue-colored cap and coat of arms complement the copper color of this VS, while the deep purple, black and cream detailing on the label add an understated elegant touch to the bottle presentation.
This Very Special Old Pale Cognac from the Braastad estate is fairly versatile, it can be enjoyed in a long drink or on its own. Its finish of oak and chocolate make it a wonderful accompaniment to a cigar or espresso after a meal.
This is a huge step up from the Brastaad VS. Intensely floral, but traces of apricot, prunes and tobacco. Not sweet, pleasantly woody, plenty of vanilla and caramel. Chocolate and nutmeg on the long, gentle, lingering finish. This is wonderful cognac for the money.
I found this Gem at a grand retail store, paid a good price for it here in the Reno/Tahoe Area. I am a huge fan of trying VSOP, great prices and usually unique and the terroirs are specific. In the heart of Grande Champagne in the village of Jarnac lies the impressive Chateau de Triac. The chateau is the home of Cognac Tiffon, to which the Cognac brand Braastad belongs.
Rubbing shoulders with other famous Cognac houses such as Bisquit or Courvoisier, the brand Braastad was created when a Norwegian named Sverre Braastad married into the Tiffon family.
Known for their devotion to the traditional Cognac producing methods, today the whole process is still carried out at the family premises, and Cognac Braastad’s products are renowned worldwide.
