Larsen VS Viking Cognac is the youngest expression in the Larsen range. It comprises a blend of different eaux-de-vie aged for a minimum of two years, all from the Fins Bois and Grande Champagne growing areas. Distilled without the lees, Larsen VS expresses a light flavour with fresh grape and herbal notes. It's no wonder that this was rated the best VS Cognac in the world at the World Drinks Awards 2016.
Larsen’s barrels are all crafted from fine-grained sessile oak (Quercus Petraea) sourced from the Tronçais forest in central France. The ancient trees here are relatively low in tannins, which combined with a very light toasting at Larsen’s cooperage brings out the sweet flavour of the casks without overpowering the natural aromas of the wine. After aging, the eaux-de-vie are carefully blended by Master Blender Robert Andrieux to combine all the right notes of fresh fruit, purity and elegance; the famous Larsen style.
The history of Larsen Cognac began with a young Norwegian skipper from Tromsø, Jens Reidar Larsen, who left home at the age of 24 in search of a new life in the Americas. While his boat made a stopover in Bordeaux for essential repairs, Jens Reidar decided to make some money and sought out work in a nearby town. It was here that he found his new life - falling in love with a local girl as well as the local spirit - and he never got back on that boat. After working several years for the Cognac house Prunier, Jens Reidar eventually founded Larsen Cognac in 1926.
This edition of Larsen VS Cognac is presented in a tall bottle with a rounded base and the distinctive Larsen Viking ship motif on the medallion and label.
While this is a great Cognac to enjoy on its own or with ice, it’s also perfect for a long drink with lemonade. Simply pour 50ml of Larsen VS over ice in a tall glass, top with lemonade and garnish with a few white grapes.
