After exploring r(h)ums and whisk(e)y I finally got into Armagnac and Cognac. I am happy to be able to continue this interesting journey.

After decades of drinking lots of whisky and not enough cognac, I have spent the last few years drinking quite a lot of both (and some Armagnac and Calvados too). I don’t look for whisky substitutes or comparisons in cognac, they are quite different spirits and should be treated as such. Both are magnificent I think.

French wine, and the concept of terroir, captured my interest early on. Naturally, curiosity took me to spirits, in particular Cognac. Today I'm proud to be a member of the Cognac Expert team managing B2B projects, working on Cognac Expert Originals, and writing bottle reviews for the English Blog. I love to taste anything and everything - rum/rhum, whisky(ey), Armagnac, etc. - but no other spirit grabs my attention quite like Cognac, and all of its subtleties and nuance. Santé !

Plenty of action on the nose with orange, prunes, cinnamon and flowers all laid out on a piece of used leather. It is floral, but not intensely so. Delicious honey and chocolate as it arrives on the palate with a charming interplay between fruit and flowers. The cinnamon and cocoa are here too. ...

Tasting from 3 1cl samples The nose is much more floral than the A E Dor no.7. There’s fruit as well, with Seville orange and mango, but there’s much more wood here with hints of cedar and cigar box. The floral notes predominate though and it is surprisingly fresh for its age. The juiciness...

I’m tasting this from three small samples. The initial nose is already showing class with deep plummy notes, some sweet hints of cocoa and dried fruits, tobacco leaf is there too. It’s surprisingly gentle, but really lovely. Initially on the palate there a burst of fruit that quickly settle...
