The Normandin Mercier Grande Champagne Rare Cognac is, exactly as its name suggests, created solely from eaux-de-vie from the premier cru of the Cognac region. Of hors d'age quality, this is of a slightly higher proof than usual, and comes in a 500ml decanter and presentation box.

As one would expect from such a well-aged cognac, the colour is dark and it boasts the wonderful notes of rancio that only old cognacs have. This is certainly one to enjoy on special occasions with the closest of family and friends. If you've not yet heard of the house of Normandin Mercier, then this could be the cognac that makes you a fan.

This review is based on a sample bottle. This cognac needs time to develop, it is a bold yet quaffable cognac with a long finish. I would give a much higher rating if it has higher complexity. I'm more interested in their PC after drinking this.

This is a 50 year old Grande Champagne from this quality producer. There is also a Petite Champagne with the same age. This is a nice looking cognac, deep golden, a bit shiny. You taste their terroir in every sip. Vanilla, cut wood, apricot and so many other things. This cognac made us fall in love with cognac. The visit there was amazing. So glad to have been able to bring a bottle home in 2019.
