It's rare to drink such a complex Armagnac
My understanding of Armagnac has always been based on the flavors of sour plums and dried fruits. I never expected this Armagnac brandy to be so complex, with my favorite floral and fruity aroma intertwined with the barrel wood aroma. It is truly a refreshing and unexpected brandy.
Long, dry and delicious
There's a touch of emulsion paint on the nose, a note I often get from Armagnac, but there's plenty of rich, raisiny fruit as well. The palate brings more raisins, but isn't really striking me as very aged, despite the Hors D'Age classification. There's spices, but they are not dry and dusty. They...
Marcillac Hors d'Age
I recently revisited this Armagnac, which also gave me the opportunity to reflect on the visit to the domaine, where I was first introduced to this Hors d'Age Armagnac. The tasting image is from the Marcillac cellar - absolutely one of the most stunning cellars I've visited, Cognac and Armagnac combined....
Fine Armagnac - Marcillac Hors d´Age
Tasted from a complimentary sample: Beautiful amber colour with golden reflexes. Nose on ripe pears, vanilla, caramel , roasted nuts and pastry mingled with fine oak. Really good balance on the palate showing chocolate, vanilla and spicy notes mixed with pears and overripe bananas - quite complex! The...
ARMAGNAC Aroma
As you initially sense the rich caramel scent, a subtle hint of vanilla adds to the calm aroma. With your first sip, you may experience a sharp taste quickly, followed by a touch of Armagnac roughness. This may be slightly unlike any traditional Armagnac you've ever tasted before. But don't worry,...
About Armagnac Marcillac
With its sandy, gravel-rich soils, Lot-et-Garonne is similar to that of Bas Armagnac, producing Ugni Blanc grapes that result in powerful Armagnacs which are superior for aging. Meanwhile, the chateau, made with thick stone walls, provides the perfect location to age eaux-de-vie for extended time periods. These conditions allow Maison Armagnac Marcillac to produce well-aged vintage products of premium quality and tasting characteristics. Combining the wonders of a superb region with the perfect conditions for aging, a spectacular result is always granted. Run by Robert, a fourth-generation winemaker on the estate, today the brand brings forward both innovation and modernity to the company, while still remaining true to the traditional methods of Armagnac production through years of dedication and craftsmanship.
