A rare bottle of French-Korean heritage: A collector’s edition Martell VSOP, 20 years
Martell has always produced Cognac with both knowledge and emotion, and this pre-WWI bottle certainly has a beautiful story. The seller acquired the bottle in the 1950s.
Although a VSOP, as with all Martell Cognacs, they are aged for far longer than required. In fact, this unique collector’s item has been aged for at least 20 years in oak barrels.
This means that this is a very fine blend of Cognacs from both the 19th and 20th centuries.
The most beautiful aspect of purchasing a collector's bottle of Cognac is not only the age of the rare eaux-de-vie within, but also the incredible stories that bring people together. This bottle in particular, is imbued with emotional significance, and will be treasured forever.
Martell are the oldest of the Big Four Cognac houses, and favor eaux-de-vie from the Borderies region for their incredible blends.
Story of the Cognac
The seller’s father was stationed in France during the Korean War in the 1950s, and rented a room with the seller’s mother at Chateau de la Vauguyon in Chinon, a town in the Loire valley of France. T
The owners, Mr and Mme. Duthu befriended the seller’s parents and gave them this very bottle of Cognac as a gift from their exclusive wine cellar, which was and still is a cellar on their property.
Their son continues to live at the chateau.

About Martell Cognac
Martell is the oldest of the Big Four Cognac houses. Similar to Rémy Martin, but a few years older still, not long ago did Martell celebrate its 300-year anniversary. The history of Martell & Co dates back to 1715 when Jean Martell founded the company with the wish to produce only the highest quality in Cognac. With the legendary bottles Martell Cordon Bleu, the cuvée Martell Extra L’Or de Jean Martell and the recent Création Grand Extra from 2007, the company strongly implanted itself in the luxury goods market, and are famous for using large amounts of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies terroir. It belongs to Pernod Ricard and has sales of around 15 million liters every year. The most precious eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1830, are stored in a secret location in the cellars of Jean Martell - approximately 1.6 million 9-liter cases!
