Brugerolle Cognac

With a history dating back to the late 1700s, the small family brand of Brugerolle Cognac has been protected by becoming part of the Compagnie de Guyenne (CDG), created by Cognac Meukow in 1969. Brugerolle Cognac was incorporated into the CDG in 1987, allowing their cognacs to continue to be produced in the traditional manner and sold under the Brugerolle label.

History of Cognac Brugerolle

As far back as the late 1700s, the Brugerolle family were farming the vines, producing eaux-de-vie and beginning to supply their products to local businesses. The founder of the cognac house, Leopold Brugerolle, not only supplied restaurants around the country – including those in Paris – but also found his cognac being requisitioned by French military officers.

By 1847, Cognac Brugerolle had established itself in Matha, Charente Maritime, and continued to produce a wide range of cognacs. The house was passed down through the generations, along with the secrets and traditions of each cellar master from father to son.

In 1987 the house of Cognac Brugerolle was incorporated into the Compagnie de Guyenne (CDG).  This is the collaboration created by Meukow Cognac, which along with marketing their own cognacs, concentrates on sustaining smaller, family run cognac houses and providing them with the distribution network and might of a larger corporation.

Brugerolle Cognac Today

Today Brugerolle Cognac still has a CEO who is a member of the Brugerolle family, but the house comes under the umbrella of the Cie de Guyenne and its CEO Philippe Coste. The distillery has undergone massive renovation and is now one of the most technologically advanced in the whole of the cognac industry.

News, Products and Prices

There are some wonderful old Brugerolle cognacs and vintage products that have come under the hammer in recent years. One such notable bottle was a 1795 Brugerolle Aigle D'Or, Trés Vieille Réserve Spécial that was sold by Christies in Chicago in 1990. This hand blown bottle that holds between 5-6 litres of eaux-de-vie and is estimated to have a value of around €138,000 euros.

If your pocket doesn’t quite stretch to that, then it’s possible to purchase a bottle of Brugerolle Tres Vieux 40° Extra Cognac for around €100.
