Prunier XXO Family Series 2
Whereas the XXO Family Series 001 was a blend of two vintage Cognacs from the Fins Bois, this XXO Family Series 002 edition is from the 1985 vintage and is a single cask Cognac - bottled at its natural cask strength 48.6%. It comes from the Grande Champagne cru and was selected by Dale Cooper alongside Stephane Burnez from Maison Prunier. During Cooper’s recent visit to the Cognac region, he visited Prunier’s damp cellars in Gimeaux where hundreds of barrels and dame jeannes peacefully lie, allowing the Cognac inside to mature and come of age.
As one can imagine, hundreds of samples from all sorts of different barrels and dame jeannes were tasted, but one in particular stood out: what now has been bottled as the Prunier XXO Family Series Number 002. In a recently published interview, referring to this specifically selected Cognac, Cooper himself states, “Yes, but this one stood out. As much as the first one I did was amazing, I think this one is going to walk all over the first one.” Strong words but they are undoubtedly merited given just how expressive this Prunier XXO Family Series Number 002 is. The balance and maturity are simply spot on!
About Prunier Cognac
Steeped in tradition, Cognac Prunier is a family run firm with cellars in the heart of the town of Cognac. The house does not own its own vineyards, instead, they buy the eaux-de-vie directly from supplying vine growers and distillers each year, and then carry out the ageing process in their own cellars.
