Description

The latest Martell XXO Cognac Chanteloup - a collection of over 450 eaux-de-vie

One of the Big Four Cognac Houses continue to prove that there are still a whole host of avenues to explore in the labyrinthian world of Cognac, thanks to the release of Martell Chanteloup XXO Cognac.

Containing 450 eaux-de-vie harmoniously weaved together using centuries of savoir-faire, it’s the ultimate expression of Martell’s blending prowess. The youngest of the blend is 14 years old, and they are a selection from the finest crus in the Cognac region: the Borderies, Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Fins Bois.

With talk of the new ‘Extra Extra Old’ Cognac age category causing a stir for the past year now, they have unveiled their latest expression.

Still curious about the XXO Cognac category? We’ve taken the time to demystify this up-and-coming age denomination. Unveiled by Pernod Ricard at the historic Petit Palais in Paris in conjunction with Martell’s Cellar Master, Christophe Valtaud, the Martell Cognac Chanteloup marks an iconic moment in Cognac history - three centuries after one of the oldest great Cognac houses was founded, in 1715.

Martell celebrated the release of the latest Chanteloup Cognac XXO with a lavish party in the gardens of the Petit Palais, where guests enjoyed various Martell-based cocktails and then moved inside for a five-course meal cooked by triple-Michelin star chef, Guy Savoy. Each one of the courses was prepared with a dash of different Martell Cognacs.

You can watch the highlights of the evening here.

Presentation of the Martell Chanteloup decanter

The decanter is an intricately designed work of art. Similarly shaped to the Martell XO, it has a beautiful boomerang-like curvature which will make it the centerpiece of any collection. The bottle is designed with a series of twisted silver embellishments and a matching silver stopper.

The finishing touch is a white leather-look cuff around the neck of the bottle.

The decanter was also released alongside a bespoke trunk, which can be made to order and comes with an engraved plaque. It is the definition of luxury - we recommend you read more about it on our blog.

How to enjoy this Martell XXO

With such a particular blend of so many eaux-de-vie, this Cognac must be enjoyed in the right atmosphere, neat, at room temperature and enjoyed contemplatively. Leave it for an initial few minutes to open up in the snifter glass.

Afterwards, try it over ice to see how this unique patchwork of flavors and aromas develop.

About Martell Cognac

Martell is the oldest of the Big Four Cognac houses. Similar to Rémy Martin, but a few years older still, not long ago did Martell celebrate its 300-year anniversary. The history of Martell & Co dates back to 1715 when Jean Martell founded the company with the wish to produce only the highest quality in Cognac. With the legendary bottles Martell Cordon Bleu, the cuvée Martell Extra L’Or de Jean Martell and the recent Création Grand Extra from 2007, the company strongly implanted itself in the luxury goods market, and are famous for using large amounts of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies terroir. It belongs to Pernod Ricard and has sales of around 15 million liters every year. The most precious eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1830, are stored in a secret location in the cellars of Jean Martell - approximately 1.6 million 9-liter cases!
