The Vallein Tercinier XO Vieille Reserve Cognac is a delectable old blend of eaux-de-vie from the two premier growth areas of the region. It's designated as a Fine Champagne, meaning that a minimum of 50% comes from Grande Champagne, the rest from Petite Champagne. The youngest component in the blend has been aged for at least 35 years, and this has led to an extremely elegant, round, and deliciously mature taste experience.
A deserving award winner, this is a great example of why small producers can provide you so much more for your money. One of the most outstanding aspects of this wonderfully old Cognac is its exceptional finish. Multi-faceted, and almost never-ending, it has to be tasted to be truly appreciated.
The Vallein Tercinier XO Vieille Reserve is a cognac for those who enjoy the finer things in life and its luxurious bottle and label design reflect this. Decanted in a slim bottle with a gold embossed label and golden wax seal to match - an air of elegance and tradition accentuate to its otherwise simplistic design.
Let the cognac do the talking and enjoy neat or with a splash of water. Alternatively, if you are a more experimental cognac drinker - the Cognac cocktail is an exciting way to experience the flavours of an eaux-de-vie in a different light. Mixing XO with an Old Fashioned (brandy, sugar, bitters and ice) for example, creates a cocktail that is rich and full of flavour which pairs perfectly with a dessert, or can be drunk alone as a digestif after eating.

I get lots of various fruit flavors and aromas and some spice. I prefer a little less spice, but that's just me. This is pretty typical though. Overall, it's very enjoyable with lots of lingering flavors. Good complexity. Very good cognac for the money.

 | Vallein Tercinier is a family cognac house at the Domaine des Forges in Chermignac, about 35 kilometres south of Cognac. The date on the label is 1850, when Georges Vallein developed the vineyard. Catherine Roudier-Tercinier built the modern name through the 1990s and 2000s. Today the house is run by the sixth generation, four brothers: Matthieu and Martial on the vineyard, Guillaume and Paul on the cognac. Part of the stock rests in the Petit Paradis, a clay-floored cellar that pushes humidity through the barrel pores and gives the older bottlings the undergrowth and old-leather character collectors look for.
