Description
Tiffon Extra XO Superior Cognac: Waiting for Generations
Comprising a blend of vintage eaux-de-vie from several growing regions, the oldest components of Tiffon Extra XO Superior Cognac have been aged for three generations in the humid cellars at House of Tiffon. This is a wonderful, truly old Cognac that will delight anyone with its rich nose and palate, which can only be achieved through extended maturation. Save it for special occasions.
The House of Tiffon is located along the banks of the Charente River in Jarnac, boasting forty hectares of vineyards in the Fins Bois and Grande Champagne crus. It is worth noting that Tiffon shares strong roots with Cognac Braastad, as the Braastad family today is at the helm and manages all aspects of production and sales for both houses.
It was a Norwegian man by the name of Sverre Braastand who married the granddaughter of Mederic Tiffon and took over the family business; today, his son and grandchildren are in charge of operations. The family prefers to run the estate in a traditional manner, from grapevine to bottle. They grow Ugni Blanc, St. Emilion and Colombard grapes which can be turned into eaux-de-vie and either of their two distilleries; one in Jarnac and one at Château de Triac. The distillery in Jarnac has ten Charentais stills, each with a capacity of 2,500 litres, while the distillery at Château de Triac has seven stills of the same kind. Currently, around 12,000 oak casks of Cognac are patiently maturing in Tiffon's eleven warehouses.
Presentation of the Bottle
This isn't a bottle you want to hide away in a cabinet - it looks fabulous on display. The Tiffon XO rests in a seriously heavy decanter shaped like a reversed balloon glass, with simple gold lettering, a matching gold stopper and the Tiffon name embossed in the glass.
How to Enjoy Tiffon Extra XO Superior Cognac
Serve neat in tulip glasses at room temperature, letting it rest for 30 seconds before taking the first sip. Perfect as an after-dinner drink, or enjoyed with rich fruit-based desserts. This Cognac is also the perfect pairing for a fine cigar following an indulgent meal.
About Tiffon Cognac
With strong ties to the Scandinavian country of Norway, the history of Cognac Tiffon dates back to 1875. Tiffon is to this day a family run business, and is based at the beautiful family home, the Chateau de Triac, just 5 kms from the town of Jarnac. The Chateau itself has a battle-scarred and convoluted history, dating back to the 11th century, which includes being razed to the ground by fires and completely demolished during the Hundred Years’ War. Today, the family grows 40 hectares of Grande Champagne and Fins Bois vines, overseen by cellar master Richard Braastad, who comes from an old cognac producers’ family.
