Tasting review

Eye: Golden honey tone.

Nose: Full aromatic palate, with soft floral elements typical of a Borderies Cognac such as violet. You will also notice notes of acacia, nougat, sweet mango, quince and dried apricots.

Palate: Soft, round taste with a power of culmination on the palate. Finish in Japanese oak casks brings depth, with complex and spicy notes such as white pepper, licorice, cinnamon, and vanilla. A marriage of flavors that makes for an exclusive product.

Description

A Borderies Single Cask Cognac Aged 10 Years and finished in Japanese Oak

The third element of the Park Mizunara Cognac series is here - the Park Mizunara Borderies 10 Years Cognac. Park are the pioneers of a never-before-seen alliance between Japanese ‘Mizunara’ oak and a Single Cru Borderies Cognac. This third version is composed of eaux-de-vie aged for approximately 10 years in French oak casks, and it is a wonderfully innovative product with a Japanese twist. After 10 months in new French oak, the Cognac is transferred to red barrels of 400-liter capacity to sleep for several years and develop their full aromatic capacity. The double distillation 'Charentais' process in alembic stills is a key part of its fine quality.

At the end of the maturation period, the Cognac hibernates for 9 months in new Japanese oak barrels of a 500-liter capacity. This original finish brings the most unique of spicy aromas.

Following the Park Mizunara No.1 Cognac and the Park Mizunara Borderies 2006 Cognac, Cognac Park has chosen to age fine French eaux-de-vie in a variety of rare oak from Japan which is prime for aging Japanese premium spirits.

Brothers Jérôme and Lilian Tessendier are excited to release their third release of the Mizunara oak from their estate. It is the perfect marriage between the savoir-faire of French Cognac cellar masters and exotic flavors of the Japanese oak. They have chosen once again to focus solely on eaux-de-vie from the coveted Borderies region, which contains some of the oldest soil in the entire region, and is renowned for its round, floral eaux-de-vie with subtle notes of violet. The smallest of all the crus, the light nature of the spirits is a testament to its exclusivity.

Presentation

We love the contemporary and stylistically Japanese bottle and box of the Park Mizunara Borderies 10 Years Cognac. Simple white and red labeling is combined with a chic black and white seal. Japanese typography is beautifully complemented by the Cognac Park logo.

How to serve the Park Mizunara Borderies 10 Years Cognac

For those that enjoy Japanese whisky, this is the perfect meeting point between two fine spirits. The distinctly Japanese finish is something for all those that enjoy Cognac, and for those that share our passion about local artisanal brands looking for ways to reinvent the ancestral methodology. It would make a truly inventive gift for somebody, or something to enjoy in a group degustation.

After the first taste, leave it to sit in the glass for a while. A few minutes later, take a nose to take in the aromas and fully understand its depth.
