The masters at Merlet have done it once again, creating an award-winning XO that brings together a wonderfully woody palate with lasting fruity notes. A classic blend, it has been aged for a minimum of six years to create a rich and robust flavor. This particular blend contains a combination of mostly Fins Bois and Fine Champagne eaux-de-vie using the art of blending, masterful maturation and skillful savoir-faire to create the now-iconic Merlet XO Cognac.
A round and warm blend that boasts an extreme elegance in both taste and presentation, the Merlet XO Cognac has been carefully crafted by Gilles Merlet and his two sons Pierre and Luc. The eaux-de-vie is distilled on-site before it is left to age for at least 6 years in the family's cherished cellars. This combination of crus produces a unique and fruity aromatic palate that has been described as "characteristically Merlet". A well-rounded and exquisite XO, its beautifully balanced flavors of fruit and wood has received much celebration.
Maison Merlet has been producing Cognac since 1850 and was founded by Gilles' grandfather Firmit Merlet. Located in the village of Saint Sauvant, the estate has received recognition from connoisseurs since its humble beginnings. Monsieur Merlet even managed to earn the gold medal for his Cognac at the World Exhibition in 1900. With their estate spreading across the Fins Bois and Borderies terroirs, the family work with many winegrowers to source and distill eaux-de-vie from crus all over the region. The family's ancestral expertise is used to create award-winning and exciting Cognacs. Proving that, this blend was awarded 95/100 in Wine Mag's Top 100 Spirits 2017. The Merlet XO was praised for its elegant notes of violet, lively orange peel and a spicy undercurrent.
The Merlet XO bottle is extremely luxurious in its presentation, with the family's coat of arms embossed onto the glass. A leather-like label wraps around the body in decadent deep brown and gold. The bottle also features a golden-colored stopper and a cardboard case for presentation, gifting or storage purposes. This is certainly a stand-out Cognac to display proudly amongst your collection. A treat for the eyes (and the tastebuds) for connoisseurs and amateurs alike.

This is my 1st experience with the X.O. from Merlet. It just arrived at the retailer who said it just arrived from the wholesaler and I think needs to settle down.
