Description
Menard XO Cognac: a Walk Down Memory Lane
Matured in Limousin oak for a minimum of ten years, Menard XO Cognac is another noteworthy release from this independent producer. As always, the acidic wine made from Premier Cru Ugni Blanc grapes and the fine grain of Limousin oak combine in perfect harmony; but what is remarkable here is how thoroughly mature this XO feels. Like an antique armchair, it wraps you in well-worn leather, softly leading to notes of rancio, Christmas spices and mature cheese.
A house of heritage and history, for nearly two centuries the Menard family have cultivated their vineyards in the Grande Champagne region. The official land registry records show that in 1815 Jean Menard owned a sizeable plot of land and was already distilling spirits for the local community. Remaining true to their ancestral expertise, this 80-hectare estate is still situated in the Premier Cru of Cognac.
The estate boasts traditional copper alembic stills to craft their eaux-de-vie according to the traditional Charentais method. This hallmark of heritage shows their dedication to tradition, even as they look to the future. With its robust flavors and heady aroma, the Menard XO expression harks back to the way Cognac used to be; bold, well-rounded and distinguished.
Presentation of the Bottle
Perfectly encapsulating the combination of tradition and modernity that defines the House of Menard, the bottle embraces a classic label on a slim and elegant bottle. The navy blue label displays the Grand Champagne provenance of this Cognac and matches the foil on the neck, while the accompanying black and gold cardboard case is perfect for gifting, storage or display purposes.
How to Enjoy Menard XO Cognac
This is a Cognac to savor slowly. Enjoy it neat, perhaps warmed in your hand on a cold winter’s night - or, on a warmer day, why drop in some ice for a subtly different tasting experience. Whichever way you enjoy your Cognac, Menard XO is suitable for a range of occasions: after dinner, late into the evening, or saved for special moments.
