Jean Fillioux Cep d’Or XO Selection Grande Champagne Cognac: The Force of Five Generations
Jean Fillioux Cep d'Or XO Selection Grande Champagne Cognac is a refined, rich and luxurious Cognac aged for a minimum of twelve years on the Domaine de la Pouyade estate. Five generations of family know-how and Cognac craftsmanship have gone into this stunning selection, containing exclusively premier cru eaux-de-vie from the iconic Grande Champagne terroir.
Jean Fillioux is an independent brand currently ran by a father-and-son team, Pascal and Christophe. Every step in the creative process is surveyed by Christophe himself, who quality controls every single aspect of the Cognac's production, from harvesting the Ugni Blanc grapes on the 63-acre estate through to bottling the beautifully blended Cognacs, ready to be enjoyed by discerning drinkers across the planet. His father, Pascal, has been labeled as the "Magician of Aromas" by many others in the region.
Pascal's attention to detail is obvious with the Cep d'Or XO Selection, which boasts a wonderful floral bouquet that can only be achieved by using Grande Champagne-grown grapes.
This exquisite XO earned the title ‘Best of 2017’ with a score of 94 points awarded by Wine Enthusiast magazine and comes ‘Highly Recommended' earning 96 points back in 2013. The Cognac was described as ‘enticing and dessert-like’ with notes of cocoa and pecan pie, hints of apple and a zing of ginger, making it the most delightful digestif for your dinner party guests.
Presentation of the Bottle
The golden details on the Cep d'Or XO Selection label not only reaffirm its refined status as a luxurious Cognac for the most demanding drinker, but equally compliment the wonderfully warm golden hue of the Cognac itself. The copper-gold foil stopper on the bottle and shimmering Jean Fillioux logo only further reinforce its standing as a high-quality XO, using the best eaux-de-vie from the premier cru, the gold standard Grande Champagne growing terroir. It has a slender and sleek design that would fit well with any others in your collection thanks to its classic shape and understated details.
The bottle also comes in an off-white and gold cardboard case for storage or gifting purposes.
How to Enjoy Jean Fillioux Cep d'Or XO Selection
Jean Fillioux recommends pairing this particular XO with exotic or spicy cuisine - think dishes from South India, Punjab or Szechuan. It would also be a great digestif after a dinner of Pasta Arrabbiata. The warm spices found in these dishes lend themselves well to the star anise on the finish of this XO, and the light delicate floral bouquet with its fruity bursts will lift and refresh the palate. Enjoy it neat or over ice in a tulip or tumbler glass.
Jean Fillioux also offers recipes to incorporate your favorite Cognac into a cocktail, including the "Pink Love" which sees 0.5 fl oz. of XO selection mixed with 0.5 fl. oz of raspberry liqueur (we like Chambord) in a flute glass before being topped with Champagne. The floral notes found in this Grande Champagne XO will lift the fruit flavors of the liqueur, creating a wonderful spring sipper for your party guests.
