Eye: Luminous amber

Nose: An intense floral aroma

Palate: Initial notes of tangy pear and orange peel rally, typical of old cognacs aged in England. Subtle hints of mushrooms and oak follow, nodding to the ageing process in high humidity cellars. A refined cognac with a crisp and clean finish that closes with a touch of spice.

Description

HINE Homage

Homage was crafted by HINE’s Cellar Master, Eric Forget, in honours of its founder, Thomas Hine. HINE Homage consists of a unique blend of more than twenty Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie, including three Early Landed vintage cognacs from 1984, 1986 and 1987 and a HINE Cognac that was matured in Jarnac, France. Early Landed Cognacs are characterised by being exported prior to maturation, these three vintages spent their time aging in high humidity chalk cellars in Bristol for at least 10 years. This unique blending results in a certain British style, combined with French tradition, much like Thomas Hine himself.

The cognacs used in this blend come mainly from grapes picked in Grande Champagne, along with a few exceptional Petite Champagne cognacs. The blend was created on the 23rd October 2000 and selected on the 6th February 2008. Homage is the quintessence of Hine’s style, dating back to the foundation of the House in 1763. It is both exquisite and original.

The vintages aged in the chalk cellars of Bristol, where the temperatures were steady and the humidity high, give a light and floral flavor profile. These, combined with the HINE Cognac aged in Jarnac, where the conditions were dry and fluctuating and thus the flavor is rich and woody, results in a splendid and complex cognac which truly honours its founder.

Presentation of the bottle:

A majestic, almond shaped bottle with a sophisticated and elegant label design, detailing the years the vintages are from and the dates of creation and selection. The bottle comes in a sleek black box that replicates the label design.

Awards:

HINE Homage Cognac received a score of 92, excellent and highly recommended, at the 2019 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

About Hine Cognac

Located in the heart of the Grande Champagne, the premium wine growing area of the Cognac region, the house of Hine has been producing some of the most exquisite Cognacs for six generations, when it was better known as T Hine & Co Cognac. The estate boasts an exceptional 173 acres of vineyards, and the house has a very special tradition of producing relatively small quantities - but with a very high standard in quality. One of their trademarks is to store their vintage casks in damp cellars in Bristol, England. This way, the Thomas Hine Cognac goes through a uniquely different ageing process due to the humidity of the seaside town, which differs somewhat to that of the southwestern coast of France. These highly priced vintage bottles are called “Hine Early-Landed Vintage Cognac”.
